From the airport
In Athens, Metro Line 3 from the airport to Syntagma Square takes about 40 minutes and costs around โช36 per person; a taxi to central Athens usually takes 35-60 minutes and costs roughly โช160 by day or โช220 at night. Islands vary, but a shuttle or taxi to the main hotel zones generally costs โช50-160 and takes 15-40 minutes.
Need a car?
Not in Athens, where the metro and walking are preferable. In Crete, Naxos and Rhodes, a car is highly recommended for at least two days to reach beaches, villages and viewpoints; it is less essential in Mykonos, where parking near Mykonos Town is troublesome.
Tips
Arrive at the port 45-60 minutes before inter-island ferries, and book tickets and cars early for July and August. In Athens, use a metered official taxi or a recognized app; on the islands, ask whether the hotel provides a shuttle because taxis can be scarce on busy evenings.
Kosher & Jewish
Chabad / community
Athens has an active Chabad center and the Beth Shalom Synagogue in the central area, with services, Shabbat meals and traveler assistance by advance arrangement. Seasonal Chabad activity also operates in Mykonos, Rhodes and Crete, but dates, locations and meals vary, so direct confirmation and reservations are essential. On smaller islands such as Naxos, do not rely on a regular minyan or permanent kosher infrastructure.
Kosher food
In Athens, kosher meals can be ordered through Chabad and certified products are available at selected supermarkets; options are far more limited on the islands. Kosher-observant Israelis often reserve a room with a kitchenette, bring sealed products from Israel and stock up at supermarkets. Those comfortable with kosher-style choices can readily find Greek salad, stuffed vegetables, fava, whole fish and cheeses, but should ask about cookware, shared oil and ingredients, and should not treat an ordinary restaurant as kosher.
