Rates and parking can be challenging, and rooms facing the lanes may stay noisy late.
Dassia
Dassia is an easy family base on the east coast, with calm water, water sports, tavernas along the main road and convenient Blue Bus access to Corfu Town. Ikos Dassia is the standout luxury resort, with simpler hotels and apartments near Dassia Beach. The beach is narrow and partly pebbly, while the busy main road feels less idyllic than a secluded village.
Gouvia and Kontokali
Around Gouvia Marina you will find boat rentals, restaurants and bars, while central Gouvia has lively evenings without the intensity of Kavos. Kontokali Bay Resort & Spa provides an upscale beachfront stay, and Gouvia offers many affordable apartments and hotels. It is a practical central base for driving, but the local beaches are less impressive than Paleokastritsa or the northwest coast.
Paleokastritsa
One of the island's most beautiful areas, with six blue coves, cave boats, Paleokastritsa Monastery and the Lakones viewpoint above. Akrotiri Beach Resort sits over the water, with tavernas and boat rentals around Agios Spyridon Beach. It becomes very crowded at midday in July and August, the water is comparatively cool, and the hilly road makes a car or taxi nearly essential at night.
Kassiopi
A northeastern harbor village with a taverna-lined waterfront, the ruins of Kassiopi Castle and clear pebble coves such as Bataria and Kanoni. Melina Bay Boutique Hotel overlooks the harbor, with many family villas in the surrounding hills. The atmosphere is sociable rather than party-driven, but the airport transfer takes about 75 minutes and the small beaches fill quickly.
Kavos
The area around Kavos Main Strip is packed with clubs, karaoke bars, inexpensive apartments and a long party beach, suiting groups who plan to sleep late rather than unwind quietly. Island Beach Resort is right in the action, and boat trips head toward places such as Arkoudilas and the Blue Lagoon. Prices are attractive, but noise is substantial, the crowd is very young and Corfu Town is roughly 90 minutes away.

From the airport
CFU Airport is about 3 km from town: an official taxi to the center takes 10-15 minutes and generally costs ₪60-85, while Blue Bus route 15 reaches San Rocco Square or the port in about 15-25 minutes for roughly ₪8-12. A taxi to Dassia or Gouvia costs around ₪120-180 and takes 20-30 minutes, Paleokastritsa ₪180-260 and about 40 minutes, and Kassiopi or Kavos ₪300-450 and 70-100 minutes. A prebooked shared shuttle generally costs ₪45-130 per person depending on the resort and number of stops. There is no railway; Welcome Pickups and Aegean Taxi offer convenient advance booking, though they are not always cheaper than the official rank.
Need a car?
A car is unnecessary for a Corfu Town weekend or a resort stay in Dassia because Blue Buses cover town and the nearby coast. Families and couples combining Paleokastritsa, Porto Timoni, Kassiopi and southern beaches should rent for two or three days to avoid sparse Green Bus schedules and lengthy connections. Young travelers staying in Kavos can use transfers and local taxis, but repeated trips north become expensive and tiring.
Tips
Village roads are narrow, winding and sometimes two-way only in theory; book a small car with full insurance and never drive after drinking. Parking inside the Old Town is extremely limited, so use the Spianada or port-area parking and continue on foot. In July and August, reserve rental cars, evening taxis and motorboats ahead; take small boats out early before winds and traffic intensify.

Chabad of Corfu operates in the Corfu Town area and, during the tourist season, hosts prebooked Shabbat and holiday meals and sometimes prayer services. Operations and the address may vary seasonally, so confirm directly before choosing a hotel and do not assume a daily minyan. The Scuola Greca synagogue on Velissariou Street serves the local Jewish community, but it is not a permanent kosher dining center.
Kosher food
The island's kosher selection is limited and seasonal; meals or catering arranged through Chabad are generally the safest option, subject to advance booking and current certification. Larger AB Vassilopoulos and Lidl supermarkets stock imported packaged goods, tuna, pasta, vegetables and dairy, but not a comprehensive kosher section, so observant travelers commonly bring bread, snacks and sealed meals from Israel.
