Arrive by ferry from Corfu, stay around Gaios, Loggos or Lakka, and rent a boat to explore the Blue Caves, Erimitis and Kipiadi beaches, and the turquoise waters of Antipaxos. July and August are the true peak, while June and September offer warm seas and a calmer atmosphere.

Suggested plan

A perfect Paxos itinerary

Day by day, so you can picture the whole trip.

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Gaios and the south coast

Settle into Gaios and stroll along the harbor facing Agios Nikolaos, exploring the square, lanes, and small shops. Spend the afternoon swimming in sheltered Mongonissi Bay, then return for dinner by the water in Gaios.

  2. 2

    Day 2

    Antipaxos and the Blue Caves

Sail from Gaios to Vrika and Voutoumi beaches on Antipaxos, known for clear water and pale sand that is unusual on rocky Paxos. Choose a trip that continues past western Paxos' cliffs and Blue Caves, and bring water shoes, a hat, and cash.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Loggos, Kipiadi, and Lakka

Start with coffee in tiny Loggos harbor, then swim at long Kipiadi Beach or nearby Levrechio. Continue to Lakka, rent a boat or kayak for a short bay excursion, and finish with dinner beside the yachts.

  4. 4

    Day 4

    Erimitis and the wild west

Drive through olive groves to the west-coast viewpoints and Erimitis cliffs, among the most dramatic landscapes in the Ionian Islands. Descend to Erimitis Beach only with sturdy shoes and calm sea conditions, or enjoy the viewpoint and remain on the cliffs for sunset.

  5. 5

    Day 5

Hidden coves and return to Gaios

Rent a small motorboat in Gaios or Lakka and explore east-coast coves best reached from the sea, including Orkos and Monodendri. Return to Gaios for final shopping and an early meal, or connect to the Corfu ferry with a generous safety buffer.

Getting around

From the airport

Paxos has no airport. Fly from Tel Aviv to Corfu, take a 10-15 minute taxi to Corfu's ferry port for roughly ₪50-80, and continue by ferry to Gaios. Fast crossings usually take about 55-90 minutes and cost around ₪140-250 each way; allow 3-4 hours from landing for transfers and waiting.

Need a car?

A car is not essential if you stay in Gaios and rely on boat trips and organized beach days, but it is highly recommended for families and anyone wanting independent access to Erimitis, Kipiadi, and the villages. The island is small, yet buses are infrequent and taxis scarce and costly in high season; scooters suit experienced riders only.

Rent a car in Paxos

Tips

Prebook both the Corfu ferry and a car or taxi in July and August, and leave a generous buffer before your return flight because sea conditions can delay crossings. A small license-free motorboat is an excellent way to reach east-coast coves, but rent only after a proper weather and safety briefing.

Kosher & Jewish

Chabad / community

Paxos has no active Chabad house, permanent synagogue, or organized Jewish community. The nearest Chabad is in Corfu, so travelers needing kosher food, Shabbat meals, or Jewish assistance should contact Chabad Corfu in advance rather than rely on supplies on the island.

Kosher food

Paxos has no certified kosher restaurants or supervised kitchens. Kosher-observant Israelis generally bring sealed products from Corfu or Israel and book an apartment with a kitchen; Gaios supermarkets can provide fruit, vegetables, eggs, and packaged goods after checking labels. Travelers comfortable with kosher-style choices can order Greek salad, grilled vegetables, potatoes, and whole fish at tavernas, but kitchens and grills are shared and unsuitable for strict kosher observance.

Local tips

Good to know about Paxos

  • ✈️There are no direct flights to Paxos, so book a Tel Aviv flight to Corfu and reserve the ferry to Gaios in advance, leaving at least three hours between landing and departure.
  • 📍Loggos suits couples wanting an intimate harbor and walkable tavernas, Lakka is ideal for coves and quiet evenings, and Gaios is the most convenient base without a car.
  • 🚕Taxis are limited and book up quickly in peak summer, so save a local driver’s number on your first day and prearrange evening rides or ferry pickup.
  • 🛥️A small license-free boat typically costs about ₪450 to ₪750 per day before fuel, and in July or August it should be booked at least two weeks ahead with departure before 9:00.
  • 🥗Paxos has no permanent kosher restaurant, so kosher-observant travelers should choose an apartment with a kitchen and stock up in Corfu; Greek salad, stuffed vegetables and fries are widely available, but confirm separate utensils and oil according to your standards.
  • 👟Most of the island’s best beaches are pebbled rather than sandy, so bring water shoes from Israel instead of relying on the island’s limited and pricier selection.

"Paxos is Greece at a gentler pace: turquoise coves, ancient olive groves and tiny tavernas where the waiter recognizes you by your second evening. Israelis especially fall for Loggos, when the fishing boats return and tables fill the waterfront."

Loves

My local secret is reaching Marmari Beach near Loggos before 9:30, while the sea is glassy and the natural shade is still available. From there, I walk to Levrechio Beach for another swim before lunch.

Skip

Avoid visiting Antipaxos on a large midday excursion boat, when beautiful Voutoumi becomes crowded and noisy as every group arrives at once.

Boutique pick

I design a day that starts with a small private boat from Gaios, continues to the Blue Caves and western cliffs, and reaches Voutoumi on Antipaxos before the crowds. On the return, we stop for a swim in a secluded bay, then head to Erimitis in the evening for sunset above the cliffs.

Client stories
