Suggested plan

A perfect Mykonos itinerary

Day by day, so you can picture the whole trip.

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Chora and sunset

Start with Matogianni Street, Panagia Paraportiani church and the lanes of Mykonos Town. Toward evening, walk to the Kato Mili windmills and Little Venice, then continue to dinner and Chora's bars.

  2. 2

    Day 2

    Delos and Rhenia

Depart from the Old Port for a morning boat to Delos, an impressive archaeological site featuring the Terrace of the Lions, temples and ancient mosaics. Choose a combined cruise to Rhenia for a swim in clear water, returning to Chora in the afternoon.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Beaches and beach clubs

Begin at Platis Gialos, then continue on foot or by beach boat to Paraga and Super Paradise. For an upscale scene choose Psarou and Nammos, while a younger party crowd can look at Scorpios or Paradise Beach; reserve ahead.

  4. 4

    Day 4

Ano Mera and the quiet east

Drive to Ano Mera, stroll around the square and visit Panagia Tourliani Monastery. Continue to Lia or Kalo Livadi beach; for a wilder, quieter experience choose Fokos, where facilities are limited, so bring water and food.

  5. 5

    Day 5

    Ornos and Agios Ioannis

Spend a relaxed morning in Ornos's sheltered water, an excellent choice for families. In the afternoon, head to Agios Ioannis for views toward Delos and a peaceful sunset, followed by final shopping on Matogianni Street.

Getting around

From the airport

The airport is about 4 km from Mykonos Town. A taxi to town takes around 10 minutes and usually costs โ‚ช60-100, while the bus to Fabrika is much cheaper at roughly โ‚ช8-12 but runs seasonally; expect 15-20 minutes and about โ‚ช90-150 by taxi to Ornos or Platis Gialos.

Need a car?

A car is not essential if you stay in Chora, Ornos or Platis Gialos and use buses and beach boats. It is useful for Ano Mera and remote beaches such as Agios Sostis, Fokos and Lia, but roads are narrow, parking near Chora is limited and July-August traffic is heavy.

Tips

In summer, pre-book a taxi or transfer, especially for late-night arrivals, because the island has a limited taxi fleet. Buses mainly depart from Fabrika and the Old Port, and there is no single central station connecting every route.

Kosher & Jewish

Chabad / community

A Chabad center generally operates in Mykonos during the summer season, serving Israeli travelers with prayers, Shabbat meals and kosher food by advance reservation. Its location and operating schedule can vary by season, so confirm directly with Chabad Mykonos before traveling; the island does not have a large resident Jewish community or extensive kosher infrastructure.

Kosher food

For strict kosher observance, the safest options are pre-ordering from Chabad, booking a room with a kitchenette and bringing sealed products from Israel; larger supermarkets carry produce, eggs, pasta and packaged goods, but certification must be checked. Travelers who are comfortable with kosher-friendly choices often order Greek salad, vegetables, potatoes and fish, while recognizing that cookware and kitchens are not kosher.

Local tips

Good to know about Mykonos

  • โœˆ๏ธDirect flights from Tel Aviv operate mainly in season, and July and August fares rise quickly, so book at least two months ahead.
  • ๐ŸšŒMykonos has very few taxis, so use KTEL buses from Fabrika for beaches such as Psarou, Platis Gialos and Paraga, or pre-book a nighttime transfer.
  • ๐ŸจFor couples who want nightlife without a car, I recommend staying in Chora, while families and travelers seeking an easier, quieter beach base should choose Ornos or Platis Gialos.
  • ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธIn July and August, the Meltemi wind can be strong, so on windy days choose relatively sheltered southern beaches such as Ornos and Psarou rather than the northern coast.
  • ๐Ÿฝ๏ธKosher services and Chabad in Mykonos may operate seasonally, so contact them in advance rather than assuming kosher food will be available on arrival.
  • ๐Ÿ’ณAt beach clubs, reserve ahead and request the sunbed price or table minimum in writing, as peak-season charges can reach hundreds or even thousands of shekels per couple.

"Mykonos is an addictive mix of blue Cycladic water, whitewashed houses and an energy that begins gently and carries on until sunrise. Israelis love it because you can go from lounging in Ornos Bay to sunset drinks in Little Venice on the same day, without feeling you have wasted a moment."

Loves

My secret is to reach Agios Sostis in the morning, before the wind and crowds build, and then continue to nearby Kikiโ€™s Tavern. It does not take reservations, so I arrive before opening and choose fish and vegetable dishes that suit my travelersโ€™ kosher preferences.

Skip

I do not recommend sitting down at a waterfront bar in Little Venice without checking the menu and prices first, because the view is wonderful but the bill can be an expensive trap.

Boutique pick

I design a day that starts with an early swim at Psarou, continues with a pre-booked table at Scorpios and sunset music above Paraga Bay. From there, you return to the hotel to get ready, then walk through Choraโ€™s lanes to the bars of Little Venice and dancing at Astra.
