Overview
🇨🇾Cyprus
🇨🇾Cyprus
Cyprus is one of the easiest overseas escapes from Tel Aviv, combining a short flight with clear water, polished resorts and an instantly relaxing pace. Israelis come for Ayia Napa's beaches and nightlife, Paphos's promenade and resorts, Limassol's luxury hotels, and the stone villages, wineries and trails of the Troodos Mountains.

Suggested plan
A perfect Cyprus itinerary
Day by day, so you can picture the whole trip.
- 1
Day 1
Larnaca and the sea
Land and settle near Finikoudes, walk the seafront, and continue to the Church of Saint Lazarus and its surrounding lanes. Near sunset, visit the Salt Lake and Hala Sultan Tekke; flamingos are mainly present during the winter months.
- 2
Day 2
Ayia Napa and Cape Greco
Start with turquoise water at Nissi Beach or Makronissos before the crowds arrive. In the afternoon, continue to Cape Greco's viewpoints and sea caves, then choose between Ayia Napa harbor and the bars around the square.
- 3
Day 3
Limassol and Kourion
Drive to ancient Kourion and see its impressive theater above the sea. Continue to Limassol for the old town and Limassol Marina, ending along Molos promenade or in the lively Saripolou area.
- 4
Day 4
Troodos and the wine villages
Head into the mountains to picturesque Omodos, wander among stone houses, and stop at a local winery for a tasting if you are not driving. Continue to a short trail near Millomeris Waterfall or the lanes of Kakopetria, where the cooler air feels completely different from the coast even in summer.
- 5
Day 5
Paphos and Akamas
Begin at Paphos Archaeological Park and its Roman mosaics, then walk around the harbor and castle. If conditions are calm, continue with a Blue Lagoon cruise from the Latchi area; outside the sailing season, choose the Tombs of the Kings and sunset on the Paphos promenade.

Getting around
From the airport
From Larnaca Airport to Finikoudes, a taxi takes about 15 minutes and usually costs ₪50-75; Ayia Napa or Protaras takes around an hour and costs roughly ₪180-280 by private taxi. From Paphos Airport to the harbor area, allow about 20 minutes and ₪55-85. Shuttles and buses are cheaper, but evening and weekend frequency is limited.
Need a car?
No for a beach break in Larnaca, Ayia Napa, or Protaras, where walking, buses, and taxis are sufficient. Yes for a trip combining the Troodos Mountains, wine villages, Akamas, and several cities. Driving is on the left, so hesitant drivers should book an automatic car with full coverage.
Tips
Ask the hotel to arrange a taxi or use a locally available taxi app to reduce fare surprises. In summer, reserve cars early, and never drive a rental into Northern Cyprus without explicit company approval and suitable insurance.
Kosher & Jewish
Chabad / community
Active Chabad centers operate in Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, and Ayia Napa, offering prayers, Shabbat meals, and sometimes a restaurant, catering, or preordered kosher food. Chabad Larnaca is a major hub for Israeli travelers; services vary by season and holidays, so meal registration and advance confirmation are essential. Options in Protaras are more limited, and travelers generally rely on Ayia Napa or stock up beforehand.
Kosher food
Kosher-observant travelers usually preorder from Chabad, choose an apartment or hotel with a kitchenette, and buy certified packaged products at major supermarkets such as Lidl, AlphaMega, and Metro. Those comfortable with kosher-style choices can readily find salads, hummus, tahini, fries, grilled vegetables, and fish, but local kitchens are not kosher and do not maintain separation.

Local tips
Good to know about Cyprus
- 🚗Cyprus drives on the left, so I recommend booking an automatic car in advance and collecting it during daylight, especially if this is your first time using British-style roads.
- 🔌Cyprus uses British Type G sockets, so bring an adapter from Israel rather than paying an inflated price at the hotel shop or airport.
- 🏨For families seeking easy beaches choose Protaras, for nightlife stay in Ayia Napa, and for an urban break with restaurants and shopping opt for Limassol.
- 🛥️In July and August, reserve Cape Greco cruises, beach-club loungers and rental cars ahead of time, as short flights from Israel make weekends particularly busy.
- 💶Southern Cyprus uses the euro and cards are accepted almost everywhere, but keep €20 to €40 in cash for parking, villages and small kiosks.
- ✡️For Shabbat or kosher meals, book ahead through Chabad centers in Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos or Ayia Napa, and do not assume that vegetarian dishes in tavernas are prepared with separate utensils.

"To me, Cyprus feels like a proper trip abroad without losing a full day to travel: a short flight, clear water and a pace that slows you down almost instantly. Israelis fall for that combination, especially when they realize that within an hour of Larnaca they can go from an urban promenade to the turquoise waters of Cape Greco."
Loves
I love reaching Konnos Bay, between Ayia Napa and Protaras, early enough to claim a quiet spot before the boats arrive and swim with a mask. Afterwards, I continue to the viewpoint by Cyclops Cave, a short trail that most visitors who stay close to their hotel completely miss.
Skip
I do not recommend choosing a hotel in the heart of Ayia Napa’s club district just because the price looks tempting, since in July and August the noise continues well into the night.
Boutique pick
My perfect Cypriot day begins with a small morning boat trip from Protaras to the Blue Lagoon and Cape Greco sea caves, before the coves fill up. In the afternoon, I head to Lefkara, wander among its stone houses and stop for a Cypriot meal of halloumi, salad, potatoes and local bread with views toward the Troodos Mountains.
