Overview

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พLarnaca

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พCyprus

Larnaca is one of the easiest Mediterranean escapes from Israel, combining a short flight with beachfront hotels and the lively Finikoudes promenade. Summer is made for warm water and Mackenzie Beach clubs, while spring and autumn suit relaxed city breaks, Salt Lake walks and day trips to Ayia Napa or the mountain villages.

Suggested plan

A perfect Larnaca itinerary

Day by day, so you can picture the whole trip.

  1. 1

    Day 1

    Finikoudes and the Old Heart

Start on the Finikoudes promenade, continue to Larnaca Castle and the Church of Agios Lazarus, then explore the lanes and local shops around the square. Return to the marina and seafront at sunset for dinner overlooking the water.

  2. 2

    Day 2

    Salt Lake and Mackenzie

Visit Hala Sultan Tekke in the morning and walk beside the Salt Lake, where flamingos are mainly seen during winter. Spend the afternoon swimming at Mackenzie Beach and having a drink at a beachfront venue, then stay as the area comes alive in the evening.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Lefkara and Choirokoitia

Drive to Lefkara to wander among stone houses, lace workshops, and silver shops, with a stop for Cypriot coffee in the square. On the way back, visit the Neolithic site of Choirokoitia, a World Heritage Site revealing a surprisingly ancient side of the island.

  4. 4

    Day 4

    Ayia Napa and Cape Greco

Head east to Cape Greco, stop at the viewpoints and sea caves, and continue for a swim at Konnos Bay or seasonal Nissi Beach. In the evening, dine and walk around Ayia Napa Harbour, or return to Larnaca for a quieter night.

  5. 5

    Day 5

    Sea and a Relaxed Cruise

Spend the morning on a final swim at Finikoudes or Mackenzie, or book a short cruise from Larnaca Marina when weather permits. Before your flight, visit the market or central shopping streets for coffee, souvenirs, and packaged Cypriot products.

Getting around

From the airport

The airport sits right on the edge of the city. A taxi to Finikoudes usually takes about 15 minutes and costs โ‚ช55-80, while Mackenzie is around 8-10 minutes and โ‚ช35-55; bus 425 reaches the Finikoudes area in roughly 25-35 minutes for about โ‚ช10-16.

Need a car?

You do not need a car if you stay in Finikoudes or Mackenzie and plan a city-and-beach break. Renting one for a day or two is worthwhile for Ayia Napa, Cape Greco, Lefkara, or the Troodos villages; Cyprus drives on the left.

Tips

Do not rely on ride-hailing apps at every hour; in the evening, ask your hotel or restaurant to book a taxi and confirm the fare first. Central parking is limited, so use an organized lot near Finikoudes and never park beside double yellow lines.

Kosher & Jewish

Chabad / community

Chabad Cyprus operates in central Larnaca, relatively close to Finikoudes, with a synagogue, prayer services, Shabbat meals, and traveler assistance. Register for meals in advance and confirm the current address, service times, and activities directly with Chabad for your travel dates.

Kosher food

Kosher meals can be pre-ordered through Chabad, and kosher products may sometimes be available at community-linked outlets, though selection and opening hours vary. Many observant travelers stay in an apartment near Finikoudes, buy clearly certified products at supermarkets, and cook; local fish and vegetarian restaurants are not kosher without supervision, even when an individual dish appears suitable.

Local tips

Good to know about Larnaca

  • ๐ŸจChoose Finikoudes if you want to walk everywhere at night, or Mackenzie if your trip revolves around the beach, bars and plane spotting, while keeping possible aircraft noise in mind.
  • ๐Ÿš•A taxi from the airport to central Larnaca usually costs about โ‚ช60โ€“100, making it a practical and often good-value option for families.
  • ๐Ÿš—Cyprus drives on the left, and if you rent a car, do not cross into the islandโ€™s north without written confirmation that both the contract and insurance permit it.
  • ๐Ÿ•For kosher meals, contact Chabad or Larnacaโ€™s Jewish community several days ahead, especially for Shabbat, holidays and the busy months of July and August.
  • ๐ŸฆฉFlamingos visit the Salt Lake mainly during the cooler months rather than summer, so check recent sightings before planning a dedicated stop.
  • ๐Ÿ›๏ธIf your flight from Israel lands late, book accommodation with overnight reception or obtain clear self-check-in instructions, as many apartments are unstaffed after midnight.

"Larnaca is my go-to recommendation when you want to slip abroad without spending half the day getting there. It has an easy pace, inviting water and a promenade made for evening strolls, while at Mackenzie Beach you can watch planes glide right over the shoreline."

Loves

My local secret is to start at relatively peaceful Kastella Beach, then walk along the water to Mackenzie before sunset. You get a calm swim and the lively beach-bar and plane-spotting atmosphere without spending the entire day in the busiest section.

Skip

I would not automatically choose the first waterfront restaurant on Finikoudes, as you often pay mainly for the view and get fairly average food.

Boutique pick

I would design a day that begins with coffee in the lanes around Agios Lazarus Church, continues with a short cruise from the marina and a swim at Kastella, and ends at Mackenzie Beach as planes descend overhead at sunset. In the cooler season, I would add a flamingo stop at the Salt Lake before an evening stroll back along Finikoudes.
