Overview
🇨🇾Limassol
🇨🇾Cyprus
Limassol is Cyprus's most alive city — a wide seaside promenade, a glitzy marina, and a nightlife scene that starts early and ends late. From fresh-fish tavernas at the Old Port to buzzing bars around Saripolou Square, this is a Mediterranean city that knows exactly what it is. And that's before you factor in the kilometers of pebble-and-sand beach waiting for you each morning.

Local tips
Good to know about Limassol
- 🛵Rent a scooter or e-bike at the Old Port area — Anexartisias Street is gridlocked, but the coastal path from the old fishing harbour all the way to the new Marina is wide open in the early morning, right when the fishing boats come back in.
- 🍺Limassol is Cyprus's beer capital: the KEO brewery runs free guided tours on Sundays — book ahead on their site. The tasting includes the rare LEON lager that never gets exported to Israel.
- 🏘️Don't get stuck in Germasogeia (the hotel strip). The Agios Ioannis neighbourhood, just minutes from the centre, is packed with cafés and tavernas where actual locals eat — a main course with house wine runs under ₪70.
- 🏖️Lady's Mile and Governors Beach require a car — but they're worth it. Governors Beach is black basalt and unusually shallow, perfect for kids. Leave before 09:30 to grab shade and avoid the Friday Nicosia-returnee traffic.

"Limassol is the least 'Cypriot' city on the island — it's Mediterranean, a little European, a little Levantine, and layered with a quiet kind of wealth that feels more like a small Monaco than a resort town. I work here because it rewards people who know how to look beneath the surface."
Loves
My personal secret: Café Pralina at 74 Gladstonos Street, in the heart of the old quarter. They serve traditional Cypriot coffee with loukoumades — honey-and-cinnamon fried dough balls made in-house — that appear on no tourist menu anywhere. The owner, Andreas, speaks fluent Arabic and genuinely loves Israeli guests.
Skip
The restaurants right on the main promenade strip between the Marina and the castle — picture-heavy menus, prices inflated by 40% on every dish. A basic souvlaki there costs ₪95. I ask every single client not to sit there on their first night when they're hungry and jet-lagged.
Boutique pick
The experience I design and call 'Limassol Without the Performance': an early morning at the Municipal Market (Agora) to buy fresh halloumi, olives, and Commandaria wine directly from producers. Then a drive to the village of Omodos in the Troodos hills — 40 minutes — for a private guided tasting at Vlassides Winery, and back to the coast for a sunset cocktail at Guaba Beach Bar, sitting right on the sand. Everything pre-arranged, no groups, no buses.
Client stories
What returning travelers say about Limassol
"We flew to celebrate a 40th birthday — five days with girlfriends. The biggest surprise was the old quarter: tiny cafés, scents of Cypriot coffee and anise, people who aren't in a rush. We drank Commandaria at Vlassides Winery and ate sheftalia (lamb sausages) in Agios Ioannis until midnight. I never thought Cyprus could make me feel so far from home."
Noa Cohen
5 nights, September, group of girlfriends, mid-to-high budget
"We flew with three kids (ages 4, 7, 10) — I was skeptical. Limassol surprised us: Governors Beach was so safe and shallow the youngest walked around on her own, restaurants offered real kids' menus (not just fries), and 20 minutes away are archaeological sites the adults actually preferred to the children. We rented a car for ₪170/day — an investment that paid back double."
Yoav Vered-Levi
4 nights, July, family with young children, mid-range budget
"Limassol impressed me most through its food. I thought I knew Cypriot cuisine — halloumi, tzatziki — but at the Agora (Municipal Market) I found fresh Anari cheese, olives dressed with kohlrabi and tahini (yes, tahini!), and a baked Halloumi bread I had never tasted before. I came home with a suitcase half-full of cheese and wine. The customs officer at Ben Gurion took one look and waved me through."

FAQ
Common questions about Limassol
Do Israelis need a visa to enter Cyprus?
No. Cyprus is an EU member and Israelis enter with a valid passport only, no visa required, for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Note: Cyprus is not part of the Schengen zone, but there are no open land borders — always ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months ahead.
What is the best time of year to visit Limassol?
April-May and September-October are the sweet spot: temperatures between 24-28°C, warm sea (22-26°C), and hotel prices 30-40% lower than July-August. June-August is very hot (up to 38°C), crowded, and expensive. Hanukkah and Passover are also peak periods due to high Israeli demand.
How many days are enough for Limassol?
3 nights is the right minimum: day one for settling in and the old quarter, day two for a Troodos mountains excursion (Omodos, Platres, Caledonia waterfall), day three for the beach and marina. For those wanting to add Nicosia and Larnaca, 5 nights covers the whole island.
What is the average daily budget for Limassol?
For a couple: a 4-star hotel in the Germasogeia strip runs ₪500-₪800/night in shoulder season. Meals: ₪80-₪120 per person at a local taverna, ₪200+ at Marina restaurants. Car rental: ₪150-₪200/day. A realistic daily total for two (excluding flights): ₪1,200-₪1,800. Direct flights from Tel Aviv with Arkia/Wizz Air range from ₪400-₪900 round-trip per person depending on season.
