Rates are higher, weekends can be noisy around Vokiečių and Didžioji streets, and car access is restricted on some lanes.
New Town and Naujamiestis, Vilnius
Around Vilniaus Street, Islandijos, the MO Museum and the railway station area, there are lively bars, cafés and generally better-value hotels than in the Old Town. Žvėrynas and Šnipiškės, Vilnius

Kaunas Center and Old Town
Staying near the Laisvės alėja pedestrian boulevard links the Old Town, Kaunas Castle, the Devil's Museum and Žalgirio Arena, ideal for a basketball game or concert. Moxy Kaunas Center has a youthful central feel, while Hotel Kaunas is a classic boulevard option. Kaunas is calmer and cheaper than Vilnius, but offers fewer evening dining choices and very limited kosher infrastructure, and the train to the capital takes about 75 minutes.
Trakai
This small town lies among lakes, with Karaimų Street leading past colorful Karaite houses to the famous Island Castle. Esperanza Resort & SPA offers an upscale retreat outside town, while Apvalaus Stalo Klubas faces the castle itself. It becomes wonderfully quiet once day-trip buses return to Vilnius, but there is virtually no nightlife and the limited hotel and restaurant supply can be relatively expensive in summer.
Klaipėda and the Curonian Lagoon
In Klaipėda, stay near Theatre Square and the Old Town, perhaps at MICHAELSON boutique HOTEL, then take the ferry to Smiltynė and the wide Baltic beaches. Travelers seeking dunes and quiet can stay in Nida near the Pamario promenade, with options such as Nidus, and visit the Parnidis Dune. Outside July and August the region can be chilly and very quiet, while summer rates in Nida surge and reaching the peninsula requires a ferry and, for cars, an additional local entry fee.

Return to Vilnius toward evening, or remain for sunset from the promenade opposite the castle after most visitors have left.

Kaunas, art and basketball
Take a morning train to Kaunas and begin at Kaunas Castle and Santaka Park, where the Neris and Nemunas rivers meet. Continue through Town Hall Square and Vilniaus Street to the Laisvės alėja pedestrian boulevard, stopping at the Devil's Museum or the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art. In the afternoon, take the short passenger ferry to Smiltynė and walk toward the Baltic beach or visit the Lithuanian Sea Museum if opening hours align. Return to the city for dinner and stay overnight in Klaipėda; summer hotels should be reserved weeks ahead.

Set out early through Smiltynė toward the Neringa peninsula by car or bus, beginning in the fishing village of Juodkrantė and on the Hill of Witches trail. About two hours before sunset, climb to the Parnidis Dune and sundial for views across the Curonian Lagoon and surrounding dunes, remaining strictly on marked paths. Return to Klaipėda for another night or drive roughly 3.5 to four hours to Vilnius, but do not schedule a flight to Tel Aviv for the same evening.

A prebooked private transfer costs around ₪90-160 per vehicle and is useful for families with luggage or late arrivals. For Kaunas or Klaipėda, continue by train or coach from the center; driving takes roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to Kaunas and three hours to Klaipėda.
Need a car?
There is no need for a car in Vilnius: the Old Town is compact, public transport is effective and Bolt is inexpensive, while parking and one-way streets add hassle. Couples or families adding only Trakai and Kaunas can comfortably rely on buses and trains. A car becomes worthwhile for an itinerary covering the Hill of Crosses, Klaipėda, Nida, Druskininkai or rural parks, particularly for families; in winter, confirm that winter tires are fitted and avoid small roads after dark.
Tips
Download Bolt for rides and Trafi or m.Ticket for real-time transit and tickets; do not assume a bus driver will accept a credit card. When visiting the Old Town, use a regulated car park outside the historic core and continue on foot, as color-coded parking zones are actively enforced. Nida is reached via the Klaipėda to Smiltynė ferry, and summer accommodation, vehicle crossings and coaches should be booked early; if a car is unnecessary in Nida, the passenger ferry is simpler and cheaper.
