VNO airport is only about 6 km from the Old Town. A direct train to Vilnius station runs on a limited schedule, takes about eight minutes and costs roughly ₪4; from there, the Old Town is a 10-20 minute walk. Buses 1 and 2 serve the station, while 88 and 3G are more useful for central areas, taking about 20-30 minutes for roughly ₪4. Bolt usually costs ₪25-45 to the Old Town, while an official-rank taxi is generally ₪40-70 and takes 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. A shared shuttle is rarely worthwhile, but families or groups can prebook a private transfer for about ₪90-150.
Need a car?
A car is unnecessary within Vilnius: the center is compact, most sights are walkable and Bolt is inexpensive. Families can also manage comfortably with buses and taxis, avoiding parking searches in Senamiestis's narrow streets. A rental becomes worthwhile when combining Trakai Castle with Kaunas or nature reserves, although Trakai alone is easily reached by bus or train.
Tips
Use Bolt for rides and Trafi for live public-transport routes; m.Ticket is also useful for digital tickets. The Old Town has one-way streets, pedestrian zones and color-coded paid parking, so do not rent a car for city days.
