- 🏔️The Hajar Mountains are superb for 4x4 trips — but book a local guide from RAK (not a hotel package) to reach the hidden Jebel Jais villages, where families serve qahwa and dates in their courtyards.
- 🌊Al Hamra beach is the emirate's best public beach — nearly empty on weekdays, calm water, and none of Dubai's crowds. Arrive before 8:00 AM to have it almost to yourself.
- 🦞Ras Al Khaimah's fish market near Al Qaswar port opens at 5:00 AM. Buy fresh lobster directly from the fishermen and ask the nearby restaurant Al Majan to cook it for you — it costs just a few dozen dirhams.
- 🌡️Between November and March, mountain temperatures are pleasant by day but cool at night (12–16°C). Pack layers — it is not the hot desert you expect, and a jacket is essential for camping on Jebel Jais.

My secret is Wadi Shawka — a wadi with natural pools just 20 minutes from the city. Almost no tourist signage, but the Wadi Shawka trail is a one-hour hike ending in a swim in a natural rock pool. Especially after winter rain, the water actually flows.

I recommend skipping the Jebel Jais zip line if your budget is tight — 750 dirhams per person (about ₪800) for 90 seconds is a price that does not justify itself, and the view from the 4x4 ride up is just as breathtaking and completely free.
