Soho & Muelle Uno
Soho combines MAUS street art, cafés around Calle Tomás Heredia and quick access to the Muelle Uno promenade and Centre Pompidou. Only YOU Hotel Málaga is a stylish base by Alameda Principal, within walking distance of both the old town and port. Some streets feel less polished at night, and rooms facing Alameda or the light-rail tracks can be noisy.
La Malagueta
The neighborhood sits between Playa de la Malagueta, the bullring and the port, roughly a 15-minute walk from the old town. Gran Hotel Miramar is the standout luxury address, while the promenade works well for strollers, jogging and relaxed seaside evenings. The beach is urban and crowded in summer, prices are high, and nightlife is quieter than in the center.
Pedregalejo & El Palo
Along Paseo Marítimo el Pedregal you will find relatively calm coves, playgrounds and chiringuitos grilling fish on skewers, including the famous local sardines. Hotel La Chancla sits right on the waterfront, while El Palo offers roomier apartments at lower rates than downtown. The downside is a 20-to-30-minute bus ride to the old town and fewer luxury hotels or nightlife venues.
Torremolinos
Torremolinos is the classic package-holiday choice: Playa de Playamar for families, La Carihuela for its promenade and restaurants, and Plaza de la Nogalera for late-night bars. Hotels such as Meliá Costa del Sol and Hotel Riu Costa del Sol provide pools and easy beach access, while the C1 train connects the resort with Málaga and the airport. It is a dense, heavily developed resort town, and central Málaga is about 25 minutes away.
Benalmádena Costa
Around Puerto Marina there is a restaurant-lined promenade, family boat trips and accessible beaches, while Arroyo de la Miel has Parque de la Paloma and the cable car to Mount Calamorro. Vincci Selección Aleysa suits quiet luxury, while Sunset Beach Club is popular with families; Casino Torrequebrada lies farther west along the coast. It is an excellent resort base, but less suitable for anyone wanting to walk into Málaga's old town every evening.

The C1 commuter train is the fastest and cheapest option: about 12 minutes to Málaga María Zambrano and 15 minutes to Centro Alameda for roughly ₪7–9; the same train reaches Torremolinos in around 10 minutes and Benalmádena in around 18. The Airport Express A bus reaches Alameda Principal in roughly 20–30 minutes and costs around ₪16–18. An official taxi to central Málaga usually costs ₪80–110 and takes 15–20 minutes, while Torremolinos or Benalmádena generally costs ₪70–140 depending on the hotel and traffic. Uber, Bolt and Cabify operate locally, but surge pricing can exceed regular taxi rates; a pre-booked private transfer to the center normally costs ₪120–190 per vehicle.
Need a car?
A car is unnecessary for stays in central Málaga, Torremolinos or Benalmádena because the C1 train, buses and walking cover the city and coast well. Families planning mainly pool and beach time will save money and hassle without one. Renting for one or two days makes sense for Ronda, Caminito del Rey, Nerja, Frigiliana or the white villages, although an organized tour is also convenient for Caminito and Ronda.
Tips
Install Uber, Bolt and Cabify and compare their fare with an official taxi before confirming; in the center, walking is often easier and faster. Do not drive into Centro Histórico: pedestrian zones, restricted access and one-way streets make it frustrating, while central garages such as Parking Alcazaba and Camas typically cost ₪80–120 per day. For Caminito del Rey, book the ticket and shuttle between El Chorro and the entrance in advance, and check Teleférico Benalmádena's operating status that morning because strong winds can close it.
