Beau Vallon, Mahé
This is the easiest base for Israeli travelers: a broad, swimmable beach, restaurants, stalls and water sports along Beau Vallon Beach Road, plus familiar resorts such as STORY Seychelles and Savoy. Wednesday's Bazar Labrin brings local food and music, but this is also the islands' busiest tourist hub, with occasional weekend noise.
Victoria and Eden Island, Mahé
Victoria is convenient for Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, the Clock Tower and access to Chabad in the Bel Air area, while Eden Island offers a polished marina, Eden Plaza and apartments with kitchens. It is practical for ferries and errands, but less of a classic beach holiday than Beau Vallon, and Eden Island is relatively expensive.
Baie Lazare and Anse Royale, South Mahé
The south feels greener and more local, with snorkel-friendly Anse Royale, tiny Anse Soleil and hotels such as Kempinski Seychelles Resort at Baie Lazare. There are minimarkets and simple restaurants along East Coast Road, but evenings become quiet early, and Victoria or Beau Vallon is roughly 35 to 50 minutes away.
Grand Anse and Côte d’Or, Praslin
Côte d’Or by Anse Volbert is the more convenient choice, with a long beach, restaurants, dive centers and departures for St Pierre and Curieuse; Grand Anse is usually cheaper and handier for the airport. Le Duc de Praslin is a well-known local anchor, but there is little real nightlife, and seasonal seaweed affects one side of the island more than the other.
La Passe, La Digue
Around La Passe jetty are bicycle rentals, grocery shops, cafés and guesthouses such as Le Repaire, with easy rides to Anse Source d’Argent and Grand Anse. The mood is barefoot and romantic with lovely sunsets, but almost everything winds down after 21:00, day-tripper crowds peak around midday and accommodation is pricey for its simplicity.
Platte Island or Desroches
Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island and Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island are private-island resorts with villas, bicycles, diving and beaches that feel nearly private. It is exceptional for couples happy to stay inside the resort, but requires a domestic flight, meals and activities are extremely expensive, and there is no outside dining, shopping or nightlife.

Arrival and Beau Vallon
After landing on Mahé, collect a car or transfer to Beau Vallon and settle in without cramming in attractions. Head to the beach in the late afternoon, when the light is softer and the water is often calmer, and swim opposite Savoy or STORY Seychelles. On Wednesday, browse Bazar Labrin for fruit, juices and local food, checking dietary requirements as needed; otherwise stock up at a grocery shop on Beau Vallon Beach Road. Finish with sunset from the northern end of the bay.

Victoria and Mahé's highlands
Reach Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market before 09:00, while stalls are full and temperatures manageable, then walk to the Clock Tower and Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple. Drive up Sans Souci Road and stop at Mission Lodge for a lush view over the west coast. In the afternoon, hike the Copolia Trail only in dry weather and with proper shoes, or choose the gentler Victoria Botanical Gardens and its giant tortoises. Return to Beau Vallon before dark because the mountain road is narrow and winding.

South Mahé beaches
Leave by 08:00 for Anse Intendance, one of Mahé's most dramatic beaches, but enter the water only when calm because there is no protective reef. Continue to Anse Takamaka, have a packed lunch or use a local café after checking dietary needs, then swim and snorkel at Anse Royale if conditions permit. Later, head to Anse Soleil, ideally with arrangements made in advance because access is steep and parking limited. Catch sunset at Baie Lazare before driving north.

Take an early flight or Cat Cocos ferry to Praslin, leave luggage at the hotel and collect a car. Begin at Vallée de Mai, the UNESCO-listed forest of the coco de mer palm, ideally before tour groups arrive. Buy lunch supplies in Baie Sainte Anne or Côte d’Or and continue to Anse Lazio, swimming near the rocky ends only in calm conditions. Stay overnight on Praslin, preferably around Côte d’Or for an easy evening on foot.

Curieuse, St Pierre and La Digue
Depart Anse Volbert in the morning on a prebooked boat trip to Curieuse, meet the giant tortoises near Baie Laraie and walk the mangrove trail to Anse St José. Continue for snorkeling around tiny St Pierre, using a good mask and following crew instructions about currents. Return to Praslin, take an afternoon Cat Rose ferry to La Digue and collect bicycles near La Passe jetty. Ride to Anse Severe for sunset, then return to La Passe before the roads become dark.

Anse Source d’Argent and return
Cycle to L’Union Estate at opening time, pay the entrance fee and reach Anse Source d’Argent before 09:00 to enjoy its granite formations before day-tripper crowds. Continue by bicycle to Grand Anse and, if the path is dry and you have walking shoes, cross to Petite Anse, but avoid swimming when surf is strong. Eat a packed lunch or buy fruit and drinks in La Passe, then return the bicycles on time. Sail back to Mahé via Praslin with at least a four-hour buffer before an international departure, or better still, spend the final night on Mahé if the flight home leaves in the morning.

From the airport
From Mahé airport, a taxi to Eden Island or Victoria takes 10 to 20 minutes and costs about ₪70-130; Beau Vallon takes 25 to 35 minutes and roughly ₪120-190. For southern Mahé, including Anse Royale and Baie Lazare, allow 20 to 40 minutes and around ₪100-200; prebooked transfers generally cost a similar amount and may be included by resorts. SPTC buses are extremely cheap at around ₪1-3 per ride, but large luggage is not accepted, making them impractical on arrival. There is no train and no dependable Uber-style service; reach Praslin by a roughly 15-minute domestic flight or Cat Cocos ferry from Victoria, then continue to La Digue by ferry via Praslin.
Need a car?
On Mahé, a rental car is strongly recommended for families, couples exploring the southern beaches and anyone not staying solely in Beau Vallon; driving is on the left, and roads are narrow with few shoulders. Guests based in Beau Vallon with only one touring day can use taxis or hire a driver, though costs mount quickly. On Praslin, a car for two days is the easiest way to reach Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio; on La Digue, use a bicycle or e-bike rather than a car.
Tips
Agree on the taxi fare in advance or request the meter, and keep the number of a reliable hotel-recommended driver because no ride-hailing app is dependable. Book Cat Cocos and Cat Rose ahead, especially in July-August and during Israeli holidays; the Mahé-Praslin crossing can be rough, so motion-sensitive travelers should consider flying. Parking at most beaches is free but limited, and it is best to avoid the Sans Souci and southern Mahé roads after dark or in heavy rain.
