It is green and refined, but expensive during concert season, while some residential streets become extremely quiet at night.
Bulduri
Around Bulduru prospekts and Viestura iela, travelers find a calmer beach, supermarkets, restaurants and a convenient rail link to Riga. SemaraH Hotel Lielupe SPA & Conferences particularly suits families thanks to its spa, pools and proximity to Līvu Akvaparks. There is little real nightlife, so evenings out usually require a train, bus or taxi to Majori.
Lielupe
At Jūrmala’s eastern end, between the Lielupe River and the dunes, the atmosphere is more private and the houses are large and manicured. 36.Line Restaurant and the beach at the end of 36. līnija create a resort feel, while nearby Ragakāpa Nature Park is excellent for walks. Prices are high, Jomas Street feels far away, and a car or taxis are more practical than walking.
Dubulti & Jaundubulti
West of Majori, the mood becomes more local, with historic wooden houses along Dubultu prospekts, the distinctive Dubulti station and a less crowded beach. Kurshi Hotel & Spa and holiday apartments often offer better value than the center, and trains reach Majori in minutes. Evening choices are limited, and the walk back from Jomas Street is longer than it appears on the map.
Melluži & Asari
This is Jūrmala’s quiet, spacious side, with broad beaches, pine trees, summer houses and very few crowds around Mellužu prospekts and the Melluži and Asari stations. Guesthouses and larger apartments can be better value, particularly for families. The trade-off is a roughly 15–25 minute train or car trip to Majori and very limited dining or activity after dark.

On the way back, stop at Jaunķemeri or Kauguri Beach for a quiet sunset away from Majori.

From the airport
From Riga Airport, RIX, a regular taxi to Majori or Dzintari generally costs ₪120–180 and takes 20–30 minutes depending on traffic; Bolt commonly costs about ₪80–135. A pre-booked private transfer is around ₪150–240 per vehicle and works well for families with luggage. By public transport, take bus 22 to Riga Central in roughly 30–40 minutes for a few shekels, then a train toward Tukums, Sloka or Dubulti and alight at Bulduri, Dzintari, Majori or the relevant station, another 25–40 minutes and approximately ₪6–12 per person in total. There is no direct train from the airport terminal to Jūrmala.
Need a car?
A car is unnecessary in Majori, Dzintari and Bulduri: trains, Bolt and walking cover the beach, restaurants and even a Riga day trip efficiently. For a family based in Melluži or Asari, or travelers planning Ķemeri, Jelgava Palace and the countryside, a car saves time. On a short couples’ spa break, it is mostly an added expense, including seasonal city-entry and parking charges.
