Rooms tend to be larger and nights quieter, but reaching the center requires a tram or Bolt, and some local venues close relatively early.
Majori and Dzintari, Jūrmala
Majori brings together pedestrian Jomas iela, a broad sandy beach, and Baltic Beach Hotel, while Dzintari is slightly calmer and close to the forest park and concert hall. This is Latvia's classic beach-and-spa stay, but Baltic water remains cool, July and August are expensive, and many beachfront businesses reduce operations in winter.
Sigulda
Sigulda sits at the gateway to Gauja National Park, near Turaida Castle, the cable car over the Gauja Valley, and trails around Gutmanis Cave. Take the roughly 30-minute morning train from Riga Central to Majori and begin along Jomas iela and among the historic wooden villas. In summer, reach the beach before 11:00, rent a chair or spread a towel on the sand, but carry a warm layer because the wind and Baltic water stay cool even in July. In the afternoon, walk to Dzintari Forest Park, with its observation tower and excellent children's facilities, or book a spa treatment at Baltic Beach Hotel. Return to Riga in the evening unless you have chosen a quiet overnight stay in Jūrmala.

Sigulda and the Gauja Valley

Without a car, remain in Riga: visit the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, take a short city-canal cruise in season, and finish shopping at Galerija Centrs or Stockmann. For an evening flight, allow at least two and a half hours for leaving the center, tax-refund formalities, and baggage at the airport.

From the airport
Riga Airport, RIX, is about 10 km from the center. Bus 22 reaches the Central Station area via the west bank in roughly 30 to 40 minutes and costs about ₪7-8 when bought in advance, while a Bolt to the Old Town generally costs ₪45-80 and takes 15 to 25 minutes. A metered taxi from the official rank may cost ₪70-120, so check the app price before boarding. For Jūrmala, book Bolt or a private transfer for around ₪85-160 and 20 to 35 minutes, or travel into central Riga and continue by train to Majori.
Need a car?
A car is unnecessary in Riga or Jūrmala: the center is compact, Bolt is inexpensive, and trains to Majori, Sigulda, and Cēsis are convenient. For a family planning Rundāle Palace, Gauja National Park, Kuldīga, or several towns in one day, a car saves considerable time and enables nature stops. For couples on a city break or young groups going out at night, it mostly adds parking costs and restricts bar plans.
Tips
Bolt is the most useful taxi app, while Bolt Drive and CityBee offer car sharing for travelers who only need a vehicle for one excursion. In Riga, buy public transport tickets through Mobilly or at Narvesen and validate on every boarding; purchasing from the driver costs more. Vehicle access to the Old Town is restricted and central parking uses costly zones, so choose a hotel with parking or leave the car outside Vecrīga. Rail tickets to Jūrmala are station-specific, and Majori is usually the most convenient stop for the pedestrian street and beach.

Chabad Riga operates at the Peitav Synagogue, Peitavas iela 6/8, on the edge of the Old Town and within walking distance of many central hotels. I do not recommend automatically choosing the restaurants around Livu Square just for the view and English menus, as some charge too much for average food and a tourist-heavy location. Walk a few more minutes toward Centrs or Riga Central Market for better value and more local character.
