From the airport
From Marco Polo Airport, the ATVO bus or route 5 reaches Piazzale Roma in about 20 minutes for roughly ₪40, followed by a walk or vaporetto ride. Alilaguna boats serve areas such as Rialto, San Marco and the Lido in about 45-90 minutes for approximately ₪65-75; a private water taxi is faster and easier with luggage but typically costs ₪480-650 per boat.
Need a car?
No. The historic center has no roads, so travel is on foot or by boat; a car will sit in an expensive garage at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto. Rent one only when leaving Venice for the Dolomites, Lake Garda or Veneto's wine country.
Tips
If you expect to take several boat rides, a 24, 48 or 72-hour vaporetto pass is better value than single tickets. Do not rely only on the fastest map route: bridges, steps and dead-end lanes make luggage transfers slow, so choose a hotel close to a vaporetto stop.

Kosher food
Kosher options are concentrated almost entirely in the Jewish Ghetto, including Gam Gam restaurant and kosher baked goods or groceries in the area, though hours can change and may be limited. Kosher-observant Israelis usually stay in Cannaregio, reserve Shabbat meals in advance and stock up at kosher shops; elsewhere, rely on fruit, vegetables and sealed certified products, and do not assume a vegetarian restaurant is kosher.
