Overview
🇮🇹Venice
🇮🇹Italy
Venice is the only city on earth where the streets are canals, the bridges are neighborhoods, and the air itself carries the weight of centuries. From the thundering crowds of Piazza San Marco to the silent alleys of Castello, every corner holds a complete story. A city that seems to linger on the edge between this world and something else entirely.

Restaurants Maya loves
Osteria alle Testiere
$$$Castello, Calle del Mondo Novo
An intimate 24-seat gem in Castello whose fish menu changes daily with the Rialto market catch. House-made pasta with John Dory, lobster risotto, and a local wine list that punches well above its size. Book two weeks ahead.
Trattoria da Romano
$$Burano Island
A family-run institution on colorful Burano since 1905. The risotto di gò — made with local goby fish from the lagoon — is reason enough to make the trip. Neighborhood atmosphere, honest prices.
Quadri Ristorante
$$$$Piazza San Marco
A Michelin-starred dining room overlooking Piazza San Marco. Chef Massimiliano Alajmo-trained kitchen delivers modern Venetian cuisine — squid-ink gnocchi, quail egg with Adriatic caviar. Dinner here is a complete occasion.

Local tips
Good to know about Venice
- 🚢The airport bus isn't always the cheapest option — before booking the Aerobus, check the ACTV municipal line from Marco Polo Airport to Piazzale Roma: it costs about €8, runs every 30 minutes, and handles luggage easily.
- 🕗Venice at 6:30 AM is a completely different city. Head to the Canal Grande and the Rialto Bridge before breakfast — you'll get every shot you wanted with zero selfie-stick vendors in sight.
- 💳Buy the 48 or 72-hour ACTV pass in advance via the official app — it covers all vaporetti (water buses) and gives you full mobility between the islands (Murano, Burano, Torcello) without paying per trip.
- 🍕In Venice you eat standing up and cheaply. Look for cicchetti — Venetian tapas — in the bars of the Cannaregio neighborhood. At Osteria Al Squero and nearby spots you get a glass of Prosecco and 3-4 bites for €6-8. Avoid any restaurant displaying a picture menu.

"Venice isn't meant to be looked at — it's meant to be lost in. Anyone who arrives with a checklist of attractions misses the point entirely. I build itineraries that respect the internal logic of this city, not the cruise-ship circuit."
Loves
In the Dorsoduro sestiere there's a café called Caffè dei Frari — it sits right across from the entrance to the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. The barista, Luca, makes a ristretto that is the best I've tasted anywhere in Italy. No signage, no tourists, just the local frari (neighborhood regulars) who arrive at 7:45 every morning. For me, that's the heart of Venice.
Skip
A gondola ride on the standard Rialto circuit. It costs €80-100 for 30 minutes, covers exactly the same route you already saw from the vaporetto, and those gondoliers have been playing the same songs for twenty years. If you want an authentic gondola experience — I book a traghetto crossing through the Cannaregio canal for €2. That's the real thing.
Boutique pick
I build 'Venice of the Fishermen': a full day starting at 06:00 at the Rialto fish market (it closes at noon, so early arrival is essential), continuing with a private small-boat tour of the Lagoon — not with a group guide, but with Sandro, a 67-year-old whose family has fished here since 1952 — and ending with a quiet lunch at a restaurant I've selected on the island of Torcello, with a menu that changes based on the morning's catch. Approximately ₪3,800 per couple, including the boat and the meal, flights not included.
Client stories
What returning travelers say about Venice
"We booked the 'Venice of the Fishermen' itinerary through Maya and couldn't believe we were in Italy. Sandro, the small boat, Torcello with almost zero tourists — it felt like time had stopped. The fish market at six in the morning with an espresso in hand is the kind of experience you tell your grandchildren about."
Noa and Yaakov Berkowitz, Tel Aviv
3 nights, September, couple
"As an Israeli with high expectations — I was completely surprised. The coffee tip in Dorsoduro was spot on; Luca remembered me on day two. I stayed in Cannaregio as Maya recommended and not once did I feel like I was inside a tourist zoo. Venice was quiet, real, and warm — not at all what I expected."
Roi Cohen, Haifa
4 nights, October, solo
"We traveled with three kids aged 7, 11, and 14. Maya built us an itinerary that included the glassblowing factory in Murano (the kids stood with their mouths open for 20 minutes), island-hopping by boat, and a half-day free in Burano. Not a single complaint of boredom from any child — and that's an achievement in itself. The €2 traghetto crossing was the most talked-about moment of the whole trip."

FAQ
Common questions about Venice
Do Israelis need a visa for Italy?
No. Israel has a visa-free agreement with Schengen countries. You can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area with a valid Israeli passport. Important: from 2025 the ETIAS pre-travel authorization will be required — a €7 online approval. Final launch timing is still pending; follow updates from the European Commission.
What is the best time to visit Venice?
September-October is the ideal window: the sea is still warm enough for a dip, crowds drop dramatically after September 10th, and the autumn light over the Lagoon is genuinely magical for photographers. February suits the patient traveler — the Venice Carnival (around Feb 7-17, 2026) is a unique spectacle, but prices rise 40%. July-August: overcrowded, humid heat, and accommodation prices 30% higher. Not recommended.
How many days do you need in Venice?
Three nights is the minimum I recommend. Day one for the outer islands: Murano (glassblowing), Burano (painted houses), Torcello (complete silence). Day two for Venice itself: the Doge's Palace, the historic Jewish Ghetto in Cannaregio (one of the oldest in the world), the Dorsoduro neighborhood. Day three intentionally empty — to wander, shop, and sit. Anyone who comes for fewer than two days sees the city without meeting it.
What is a realistic budget for a couple's trip to Venice?
Accommodation: ₪700-1,200 per night for a double room in a 3-4 star hotel in Cannaregio (the most price-reasonable sestiere). Food: ₪250-400 per couple for a sit-down dinner, ₪80 per couple for cicchetti and drinks at a standing bar. Transport: the 72-hour pass costs about €25 per person. Total for a couple for 3 nights including everything except flights: ₪6,500-10,000 depending on style. Direct flights from TLV with ITA Airways or connections: ₪1,500-2,800 round-trip per person, depending on season.
