Acquarica di Lecce and the eastern countryside

From the airport
Brindisi is the most convenient airport, around 45 km from Lecce: a taxi or private transfer to the center generally costs ₪260-380 and takes 35 to 50 minutes. The Salento Airport Bus reaches Lecce's City Terminal in about 40 to 50 minutes for roughly ₪30-40 per person, followed by a short taxi ride to the hotel. Another option is a bus or taxi to Brindisi station and then a train to Lecce, taking around one to one and a half hours and costing approximately ₪25-60 in total. A pre-booked taxi is more dependable than an app pickup at the airport, particularly after a late landing.
Need a car?
A car is unnecessary for a weekend focused on the Old Town, and trains cover basic day trips. For families, beach lovers and anyone combining Otranto, Grotta della Poesia, Santa Maria di Leuca and countryside masserie, a rental car is strongly recommended because coastal transport is slow and sparse outside summer. Couples planning wine tastings and long meals may prefer hiring a driver for the day rather than dealing with parking and alcohol.

The Old Town is a camera-controlled ZTL, so do not drive in unless the hotel has confirmed access and registered the license plate; use Parcheggio Carlo Pranzo near Porta Napoli or parking around Foro Boario. Free Now is inconsistent here and Uber is generally limited to expensive services or unavailable, so ask the hotel to call Radio Taxi Lecce and keep a phone number handy. In summer, leave for Torre dell'Orso before 09:00, as the SP366 and beach car parks fill quickly.

I do not recommend building your day around Grotta della Poesia at peak hours: in August it becomes extremely crowded, parking is frustrating and access to the water may be restricted. If you go, arrive early in the morning and continue straight to Torre dell’Orso.
