Garda and Bardolino
This eastern-shore stretch offers walks from Garda's Lungolago Regina Adelaide to Bardolino's waterfront, Bardolino wineries and the bay at Punta San Vigilio; Cape of Senses near Torri del Benaco is a standout luxury hotel. It is elegant and ferry-friendly, but good hotels cost more and Bardolino becomes noisy during festivals and weekends.
Riva del Garda

From the airport
Verona VRN is the most convenient gateway: a taxi to Peschiera or Lazise costs about ₪180-280 and takes 25-35 minutes, to Sirmione or Desenzano ₪260-390 and 35-50 minutes, and to Riva ₪650-900 and roughly 75-120 minutes. The Airlink from Villafranca reaches Verona Porta Nuova in about 15 minutes for around ₪30, followed by a ₪20-55, 14-25-minute train to Peschiera or Desenzano; towns without rail require a bus or ferry connection. A prebooked private shuttle generally costs ₪280-500 to the southern lake and works well for families carrying luggage and child seats. Uber is limited and expensive, so do not rely on it; from Milan Malpensa, travel by train via Milano Centrale usually takes 2-3 hours and costs about ₪80-170 per person.
Need a car?
A rental car is highly recommended for families combining Gardaland, Lazise, Sirmione and the north because it saves substantial time. Couples based in Peschiera or Desenzano and visiting only major towns can manage well by train, bus and ferry, often enjoying the trip more without parking searches. Riva, the Ponale trail and nearby northern villages can be explored car-free when staying locally, but a full lake-wide touring itinerary is far easier with one; reserve an automatic early because summer supply tightens.
Tips
Install Trenitalia and Arriva MyPay, and check Navigazione Laghi ferry schedules in advance; evening and shoulder-season services are sparse. Uber is not a dependable solution here, so ask the hotel to call Radio Taxi or a local driver for night journeys. Never pass ZTL signs in the historic centers of Sirmione, Lazise or Desenzano, and use official edge-of-town car parks; the western Gardesana Occidentale is beautiful but narrow and extremely slow in August.
