Overview
🇮🇹Florence
🇮🇹Italy
Florence is where the Renaissance never quite ended — it simply became the streets, the piazzas, and the smell of bistecca Fiorentina over open flame. From the Uffizi's walls of genius to the jewelers crowding the Ponte Vecchio, from frescoed basilicas to gelato bars that refuse to cut corners, this city challenges every expectation and honors every promise. It is not a museum city — it is a living one that knows exactly what it is worth.

Local tips
Good to know about Florence
- 🎟️Book Uffizi tickets at least two weeks ahead on the official site (uffizi.it) — the walk-up queue can eat two hours of your day. Tickets cost around €26 and are absolutely worth it.
- 🌅Piazzale Michelangelo gets overrun from 6 PM onward. Instead, head to the Giardino delle Rose just below it — the same sweeping city panorama, far fewer people, and free entry.
- 🥩A proper Bistecca alla Fiorentina is served medium-rare only — if the waiter asks how well-done you want it, you're in a tourist trap. Look for T-bones above 1.5 kg; the stall holders at Mercato di San Lorenzo will point you to the real spots.
- 🚌City bus tickets cost €1.70 when bought in advance at a tabacchi shop, versus €2.50 on board. Buy a 10-trip carnet on your first day and save across your entire stay.

"Florence is the only city where you can get lost between two world-class museums and stumble onto a trattoria that has been open since 1948 that nobody outside the neighborhood knows about. That magic is what I try to hand to every traveler I plan for."
Loves
I am obsessed with little Via dei Macci in Oltrarno — that's where you'll find Trattoria da Ruggero, a real neighborhood spot with no English menu and no big sign out front. Their ribollita is a worldview-changer, and the pappardelle with rabbit ragù haunts my dreams. A Friday-evening table needs a week's notice.
Skip
The Ponte Vecchio is beautiful from the outside, but the shops on it? A perfect tourist trap. Jewelry marketed as 'Florentine gold' sells at prices that don't hold up against the real goldsmiths of the city — in the alleys around Piazza della Santissima Annunziata you'll find craftspeople who make by hand, at half the price.
Boutique pick
The experience I love designing most is 'Florence Before Florence Wakes Up': arrive at Mercato Centrale at 7:30 AM for espresso and a cornetto with the vendors, then move to a private Hebrew-guided early-access visit to the Galleria dell'Accademia before public opening (entrance privée via VAYULOR at 7:00 AM), and finish with a guided walk through Oltrarno's streets with a local architect who has lived there since 2005. Three and a half hours, and Florence is entirely yours before the crowds rise.
Client stories
What returning travelers say about Florence
"We booked the early-access Accademia entry through Maya and could not believe it was possible — we stood alone in front of Michelangelo's David for fifteen minutes before anyone else arrived. I was in tears; Itamar was fighting hard not to be. Worth every shekel. The Trattoria da Ruggero recommendation was also spot-on to the last bite — that ribollita changed me."

"We traveled with three kids aged 8, 11, and 14 and were nervous they'd tune out in the museums. The Hebrew-guided tour Maya arranged was perfectly age-calibrated — the guide brought riddles and thinking games built around the paintings and architecture. Our oldest is already planning an independent return trip at 18. The San Lorenzo market with kids was also genuinely fun."

"I traveled solo to Florence for five days — I was a little nervous, but Maya built me an itinerary that felt like a local neighbor walking beside me. The evening I followed her advice to the Giardino delle Rose at sunset, with a small bottle of wine and bruschetta I'd bought at a corner tabacchi, and the full panorama of Florence spread out in front of me — that is the moment people travel for. Unbelievable that almost nobody is there."

FAQ
Common questions about Florence
Do Israelis need a visa for Italy?
No. Israelis enter Italy — and all Schengen countries — visa-free for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. From late 2025 an online ETIAS authorization will be required (expected cost: €7), but entry itself remains free. Make sure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen zone.
When is the best time to visit Florence?
April–May and September–October are the sweet spots: temperatures of 18–25°C, perfect afternoon light for photography, and noticeably thinner crowds than July–August. July and August are very hot (35°C+, high humidity) and peak-crowded. January–February are the quietest months — hotel prices drop 30–40%, though some museums run reduced hours.
How many days do you need in Florence?
A minimum of three nights to cover the highlights: the Uffizi, the Duomo complex, the Galleria dell'Accademia (the David), and an Oltrarno wander. Four to five nights lets you add a day trip to Siena or Val d'Orcia, dinner up in Fiesole with a panoramic view of the city, and a village market in the surrounding hills. Six nights or more and you can go deep: libraries, small churches, designer workshops in Santa Croce.
What is a realistic daily budget for a couple in Florence?
A couple traveling mid-to-high range can expect to spend around ₪1,400–₪1,900 per day: a 4-star central hotel runs €140–€220/night (₪560–₪880), meals come to ₪200–₪300 per person (casual coffee and lunch plus a trattoria dinner), average museum entry is around ₪120/person/day, and local transport ₪60–₪80. Direct flights from Tel Aviv (TLV) to Pisa (PSA) on Ryanair/Wizz Air run ₪350–₪900 per person one-way in shoulder season.
