From the airport
Catania-Fontanarossa Airport is about 6 km from the center. The Alibus serves Catania Centrale, Stesicoro and central stops in roughly 20-35 minutes for about ₪16 per person; trains leave from Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa station, reached via the free airport shuttle, and are most useful for onward coastal travel. An official taxi to the Duomo or railway station usually costs ₪80-110 and takes 15-25 minutes, while La Plaia is around ₪55-80; Free Now may provide an upfront fare. For Nicolosi or Acireale, a rental car, private transfer or taxi is preferable, normally ₪160-300 depending on destination and time.
Need a car?
A car is unnecessary for a city weekend: the center is compact, the metro works well on selected routes, and a bus or organized excursion solves the Etna day. For families combining Taormina, Castelmola, Acireale, Noto and Syracuse, a car saves time and enables beach stops.
