בטוח מאוד לתיירים. שימו לב לכיסי ביד בנמלי המעבורות ובשווקים. הכבישים צרים ומפותלים — מומלץ להשתמש במעבורות ובאוטובוסים מקומיים.

Overview

🇮🇹Amalfi Coast

🇮🇹Italy

Sheer tuff cliffs plunge into the Tyrrhenian Sea while lemon-yellow villages cling to the terraces above as if held in place by sheer willpower. Narrow stone alleys connect seafood trattorias, hidden grottos, and limoncello producers who have been squeezing the same coastal lemons for generations. The Amalfi Coast is one of the rare places that still looks unreal even after you've seen it with your own eyes.

Local tips

Good to know about Amalfi Coast

  • ⛴️Forget driving the Amalfitana road after 9 AM. The smart move is hopping between villages by local ferry or a shared water taxi – cheaper than renting a car, three times faster, and without the gridlock that ruins everyone's morning.
  • 🍋Buy homemade limoncello only from small family shops in Cetara or Ravello – never from the port stalls of Amalfi town. Look for recycled bottles with handwritten labels; that's the real thing.
  • 🕗Positano is gorgeous at 7 AM and a mob scene by 11. Go for your walk before breakfast while the alleys are quiet and fishermen are still pulling out their boats. After 10 AM, find a shaded café and lower your expectations.
  • 📶Download offline maps of the area before you leave Naples – cell coverage between Ravello and Scala is nearly zero, and GPS goes haywire on the narrow mountain roads. Maps.me with a saved Campania map is a genuine lifesaver.

"The Amalfi Coast isn't a destination – it's a state of being. People arrive for a week and only realize on the last day that they should have moved less and looked more. I design my itineraries so my clients reach that realization on day two, not day seven."

Loves

There's a small terrace at the private home of the Aceto family in Cetara – a fishing village almost no Israeli has heard of – where the eldest son, Giuseppe, serves a five-course fish meal based on whatever came out of the water that morning. No sign, no menu, no online booking. I arrange this exclusively for VAYULOR clients.

Skip

The harbor-front restaurants of Amalfi town itself. Five-language menus with photos, waiters shouting 'shalom' at every passerby, and pasta made two hours in advance. It's the spot that looks the most 'Italian' in photos and feels the least Italian in reality.

Boutique pick

The 'Three Villages, Three Rhythms' experience: one day that begins in Cetara with a local fisherman at 05:30, returns to a breakfast of fresh anchovies, shifts in the afternoon to Ravello for a concert at Villa Rufolo, and ends with a night in a stone guesthouse in Scala that nobody has discovered yet. Everything pre-arranged, no chaos.

Client stories

What returning travelers say about Amalfi Coast

"We booked Maya's experience with the Aceto family in Cetara and had no idea what was waiting for us. We went out to sea at 5:30 AM with Giuseppe, came back with a bucket of anchovies, and ate on his terrace overlooking the water. The best fish meal of our lives, and we are not exaggerating. None of our friends knew a place like this existed."

Noa and Alon Cohen, Tel Aviv

6 nights, May, couple

"The ferry tip changed the entire trip. Instead of fighting for parking in Positano, we took a small ferry between villages every day and paid less than €15. Ravello was the highlight – the concert at Villa Rufolo with the sea spread out below you is an experience that doesn't exist anywhere else. I strongly recommend Scala for accommodation, 40% cheaper than Positano and completely peaceful."

Dana Levi, Ramat Gan

5 nights, September, friends

"We flew with no prior experience in Italy and were a bit nervous. Maya was available on WhatsApp whenever we needed her, and knew exactly which restaurant would work for our daughter who only eats pasta. Her advice to avoid the harbor restaurants was spot on – we watched our neighbors pay €38 for mediocre pasta. We ate far better at Trattoria da Zi' Ntonino for €14."

FAQ

Common questions about Amalfi Coast

Do Israelis need a visa for Italy? What should I know before booking?

Israelis enter Italy (and all Schengen countries) without a visa for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. An Israeli ID card is sufficient – no passport required. Important: from 2025, the ETIAS electronic travel authorization (similar to the US ESTA) comes into effect, costing around €7 and required before travel. Check the current status at gov.il before booking flights.

When is the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast to avoid the tourist crowds?

The ideal window is May and mid-September to mid-October. In May the sea is still a bit cool for swimming but the villages breathe freely, the lemons are in full bloom, and accommodation prices are 30-40% lower than in August. Late September is the real gem: warm water, full sun, and Italians back at work. July-August means genuine crowds and prices that sting.

How many days do you need for the Amalfi Coast? Should I combine it with Naples or Sicily?

A minimum of 4 nights to see the area without rushing – Positano, Ravello, Cetara, and one proper hike. With 6 nights you can add a day trip to Capri and Salerno. Combining with Naples makes the most sense: 2 nights in Naples (pizza at Sorbillo, the National Museum, the Spanish Quarter) plus 4-5 nights on the coast. Sicily is a separate trip – the logistical distance is too great for one week.

What is a realistic budget for an Israeli couple for one week on the Amalfi Coast, including flights?

Based on a flight from Tel Aviv to Naples (direct with ITA Airways or via Rome, roughly ₪2,800-4,200 per couple round-trip), a nice stone-house accommodation (not a 5-star hotel) runs ₪700-1,100 per night. Food: ₪200-300 per person per day covering two proper meals. Inter-village transport: ₪80-150 per day per couple using ferries and buses. Total for one week for two: ₪15,000-22,000 all in. With a boutique hotel and private experiences: ₪28,000+.
