Why stay in Tbilisi?

Tbilisi has become the Israelis' backyard capital: three hours by air, visa-free, and a city that feels like Prague meets Istanbul. Cobbled lanes and carved wooden balconies in the Old Town, Narikala Fortress above the river, brick-domed sulphur baths, hot khachapuri, qvevri wine, casinos open all night and Shardeni Street bars full of Israelis. All of it compact, wonderfully cheap, and the base for a day in Kazbegi, the wine villages of Kakheti or skiing in Gudauri.
