Overview

🇧🇬Burgas

🇧🇬Bulgaria

Burgas is the best-value sea vacation Israelis have: a two-and-a-half-hour flight, no visa, and an all-inclusive beach hotel for the price of a weekend in Eilat. The real strip is Sunny Beach, 8 kilometers of golden sand lined with hotels, water parks, casinos, beach clubs like Cacao Beach and Flower Street that wakes up at night; at the southern end sits UNESCO-listed Old Nesebar for an evening stroll, and to the north quiet Sveti Vlas with its marina. A Chabad house and a kosher restaurant run every summer at Hotel Europa, and Burgas city itself, with the Sea Garden and the malls, is a one-day outing.

Where to stay

Where to stay in Burgas

Each area and who it suits best.

Central Sunny Beach (Flower Street and the promenade)

Great for: Young crowd, groups, nightlife

The heart of the strip: hotels facing the promenade, Royal Beach Mall, the Platinum casino, Flower Street bars and the clubs within walking distance. The most convenient and lively, but loud until 4am and packed at peak; families who want sleep pick a few hundred meters south or north.

South beach, between Sunny Beach and Nesebar

Great for: Families, all-inclusive, relative quiet

Sol Nessebar Palace, Planeta, Iberostar and the big all-inclusives, with a wide beach and shallow water, the Aqua Paradise water park and Old Nesebar 10 minutes away by tourist train. The perfect family compromise: close to everything without the noise of the center.

Sveti Vlas

Great for: Couples, upscale, quiet

A groomed resort town at the northern end of the bay with Marina Dinevi, yachts, waterside restaurants and small clean beaches. Quieter and more polished than Sunny Beach, a 10-15 minute taxi from the clubs; less suited to anyone who wants to walk out at night.

Elenite

Great for: All-inclusive families, small kids

A closed resort complex at the northern tip with giant all-inclusive hotels, pools, kids' clubs and a private beach. Everything is inside, but it's far from everything else: 20 minutes from Sunny Beach and few restaurants outside the hotel.

Ravda and Aheloy

Great for: Value families, Wave Resort

Two beach towns south of Nesebar with new resorts like Wave Resort and its water park, holiday apartments and lower prices. Calm sea, a Bulgarian feel, and 15 minutes by taxi to the strip when you feel like it.

Old and New Nesebar

Great for: Couples, atmosphere, no small kids

Guesthouses and boutique hotels in the peninsula's lanes or in the new town across the causeway, with sunsets on the rocks, the restaurants and the shops. Romantic and pretty, but the beaches are small and pebbly and car access is limited.

Most pleasant weather: יונ · יול · אוג · ספט

Peak season for Israelis (when everyone goes): יונ · יול · אוג · ספט. When Israelis say "Burgas" they mean Sunny Beach: the strip of hotels, all-inclusives and parties 30 minutes from the airport. The peak is July-August in the school break (families by day, young crowds by night) and prices jump accordingly; June and September give the same sea for 30-40 percent less. From October to May most of the strip is closed.

Suggested plan

A perfect Burgas itinerary

Day by day, so you can picture the whole trip.

  1. 1

    Day 1

    landing, pool and promenade

Land in Burgas, a 35-minute transfer to Sunny Beach and settle into the hotel. Afternoon on the beach in front of the hotel or by the pool, then a first evening walk on the promenade: souvenir stalls, the Luna Park and the smell of corn and kebapche. Dinner at Djanny if you booked, otherwise the all-inclusive, and an early night.

  2. 2

    Day 2

water park and Nesebar at night

At the 10:00 opening of Action Aquapark (or Aqua Paradise by Nesebar) with tickets bought online, until 16:00. After a rest take the tourist train to Old Nesebar as the heat drops: Byzantine churches, the windmill, wooden houses and lane shops. Dinner on the rocks at Plakamoto facing the sunset, and a hotel-booked taxi back.

  3. 3

    Day 3

    Cacao Beach and the nightlife

A lazy day at Cacao Beach at the south of the strip: sunbeds, music from noon and shallow water for kids. Dinner at Steak House Arena or Euphoria on the beach, then parents head to the Platinum casino while the young ones continue to Den Glade Viking, Flower Street and, at two in the morning, Cacao Beach Club.

  4. 4

    Day 4

Burgas, the Sea Garden and the malls

Bus or driver to Burgas, 30 minutes: the Sea Garden along the shore, the bridge out over the water, pedestrian Aleksandrovska Street and coffee on the square. Afternoon shopping at Burgas Plaza (Zara, H&M, Reserved, LC Waikiki), and on the way back a stop at Pomorie's Salt Museum and healing mud. A quiet evening at the hotel.

  5. 5

    Day 5

    Sozopol or Sveti Vlas

Families and couples with a driver head to Sozopol, an hour south: an old town on a cliff, beaches prettier than Sunny Beach and fish restaurants in the harbor. Those who prefer close go north to Sveti Vlas: Marina Dinevi with the yachts, a quiet beach and lunch at the marina. Back for sunset at the hotel and a folklore night at Hanska Shatra on the hill.

  6. 6

    Day 6

a last beach morning and the flight

A last morning on the beach and by the pool, late check-out if the hotel allows, and last shopping at Royal Beach Mall or the promenade stalls. Transfer to Burgas airport 3 hours before the flight, since summer queues there are long; evening flyers squeeze in lunch at Bendita.

Getting around

From the airport

Burgas Airport is 30-40 minutes from Sunny Beach. Most Israelis arrive on the package transfer; a private taxi is ₪90-140 (agree the price first or book via TaxiMe), and Burgas bus 10 reaches the Sunny Beach station for ₪8-10 with a change in the city. Sveti Vlas and Elenite add 10-15 minutes; Nesebar and Ravda are even closer.

Need a car?

No. The strip is walkable, the tourist train and bus 1 run along the main road from Sveti Vlas to Nesebar for €1-2, and taxis are cheap. A car only pays off for independent days to Sozopol, Varna or the mountains; then book ahead, mind the speed (many cameras) and remember summer parking in Sunny Beach is a nightmare.

Rent a car in Burgas

Tips

Taxis: only via the TaxiMe app or the hotel, on the meter, and never a taxi waiting outside a club without agreeing the fare. For Nesebar get off at the stop before the causeway and walk onto the peninsula, since summer traffic jams the entrance. Buses to Burgas run often from the Sunny Beach station (30 minutes, ₪6-8), and for Sozopol take a driver for the day or a bus from Burgas.

Kosher & Jewish

Chabad / community

Chabad of Burgas-Sunny Beach runs every summer (June to mid-September) at Hotel Europa in central Sunny Beach, with weekday and Shabbat minyanim, classes, tefillin, a coffee corner and a WhatsApp group with prayer times and events. Shabbat meals are by advance registration through the kosher restaurant, and seats are limited at peak season. Burgas city has a historic synagogue that became an art gallery, not an active community.

Slanchev Bryag, 8240 סאני ביץ', בולגריהNavigate

Kosher food

The mehadrin kosher restaurant Little Israel runs at Hotel Europa next to Chabad (July-August, ₪90-120 pp, Friday dinner ₪230), and it also packs meals for beach days. There is no dedicated kosher shop: stock up at Lidl and the supermarkets on packaged goods with European kosher marks, fruit, vegetables and bread. Important: a few restaurants on the strip display dubious kosher certificates, check with Chabad who is genuinely supervised.

Local tips

Good to know about Burgas

  • 🏨"Burgas" in a package = a hotel in or around Sunny Beach, 30-40 minutes from the airport; check the hotel's spot on the map, not the city name.
  • 💶Since January 2026 Bulgaria uses the euro, no more lev; cards work almost everywhere and keep €30-50 cash for stalls, sunbeds and taxis.
  • 🚕Sunny Beach taxis are famous for tricks: order via the TaxiMe app or through the hotel, and never get into a taxi waiting outside a club without agreeing the price.
  • 🏖️A sunbed and umbrella on the beach cost €10-15 a day; at an all-inclusive with a private beach it's included, which adds up fast for a family.
  • 🎢Arrive at the water parks at the 10:00 opening, buy tickets online in advance (10-15 percent cheaper) and bring food, it's pricey inside.
  • ✡️Chabad and the kosher Little Israel restaurant run at Hotel Europa from June to mid-September; register for Shabbat in advance, and make sure you enter the right restaurant (the hotel also has a regular one).
  • ⚠️Restaurants with a "kosher" sign on the street aren't always genuinely kosher; Chabad publishes each summer who is supervised, check with them before sitting down.
  • 🌙Flower Street and Cacao Beach only get going after midnight; keep your phone and cash in a closed front pocket and head back to the hotel as a group.
  • 🚌To Nesebar take the tourist train or bus 1 along the main road for €1-2, 10 minutes; to Burgas and Sozopol take a bus from the Sunny Beach station or a driver for the day.
  • 📅June and September: same sea, 25 degrees and prices 30-40 percent lower; in October most of the strip closes, so don't book Sunny Beach off-season.

"Burgas is the vacation I close fastest for clients: a two-and-a-half-hour flight, an all-inclusive on the beach, and a price that leaves money for the casino. And I always explain the little secret: nobody sleeps in Burgas. You sleep in Sunny Beach, and Burgas city is one morning of Sea Garden and mall. Once you get that, you pick the right hotel and everything flows from the first moment."

An evening in Old Nesebar after 19:00 when the bus crowds have gone: a table on the rocks at Plakamoto, sunset with Sunny Beach lighting up in the distance, and the tourist train back. And in the morning, coffee in Sveti Vlas facing the Marina Dinevi yachts before the beach fills.

What returning travelers say about Burgas

"A week at Sol Nessebar Palace all-inclusive, and the kids lived between the pools and Aqua Paradise. In the evenings we walked to Old Nesebar for ice cream and shops, and the parents escaped one night to the Platinum casino."

"Adults-only Secrets, a morning in Sveti Vlas facing the yachts and an evening on the rocks at Plakamoto at sunset. Five nights cost us less than a weekend in Eilat, and it was far prettier."

Noa and Ido, Tel Aviv

"A central hotel by Flower Street, Den Glade Viking every evening and Cacao Beach on Tuesday until sunrise. By day we recovered with a steak at Arena, and the prices let us go out every single night."

"Keeping kosher was easy: Hotel Europa with Chabad downstairs, meals at Little Israel and a Shabbat dinner we registered for in advance. The only pity is the restaurant runs only in summer, but before that we checked with Chabad who is genuinely kosher on the strip."

FAQ

Common questions about Burgas

Burgas or Sunny Beach, what's the difference?

Burgas is the city with the airport, and Sunny Beach is the resort strip 30 minutes away where all the hotels, beaches and parties are. When Israelis book a "Burgas package" they sleep in or around Sunny Beach, and Burgas itself is at most a day trip.

Do I need a visa for Burgas?

No. Bulgaria is in the EU and Schengen, and Israelis enter Burgas for up to 90 days with a passport valid for six months. Check before flying whether ETIAS registration is required yet.

How long is the flight to Burgas and who flies?

About two hours twenty nonstop from Ben Gurion to Burgas, with Israir, Arkia, El Al and Bulgaria Air mostly May to October, several daily flights at peak summer. In winter there are almost no direct flights, which is fine since the strip is closed.

When is the best time to visit Burgas?

June and September are perfect for Burgas: 25-27 degrees, a warm sea, fewer crowds and prices 30-40 percent lower. July-August is the Israeli and price peak, and from October to May most of Sunny Beach is closed.

How many days do I need in Burgas?

A 5-7 night package is the Burgas format: beach and pool days, a water park, an evening in Nesebar, a day in Burgas or Sozopol. Under four nights isn't worth the flight with kids.

How much does a Burgas vacation cost?

A 5-night all-inclusive Burgas package costs ₪2,500-4,500 per person with flights, and on the ground you spend ₪200-400 per person per day on restaurants, water parks and taxis. A family of four does a week for ₪14,000-22,000.

Where are the casinos in Burgas?

Burgas's casinos are in Sunny Beach: Platinum mid-strip, Casino Kuban at the Kuban hotel, Casino Hrizantema and Casino Royal Beach in the Barceló complex. Free entry with a passport, open all night in season with low table minimums.

Where do you go out at night in Burgas?

Burgas nightlife means Flower Street in Sunny Beach with dozens of bars, Den Glade Viking with its shows, the giant Iceberg and Disco Orange clubs, and the Cacao Beach and Bedroom beach clubs that start after midnight. All walking distance from the central hotels.

Is there kosher food and Chabad in Burgas?

Yes, in summer: Chabad Sunny Beach and the mehadrin kosher Little Israel restaurant run at Hotel Europa from June to mid-September, with minyanim and Shabbat meals by registration. Nothing the rest of the year, and always check with Chabad which restaurants on the strip are genuinely supervised.

Is Burgas for families or for young people?

Both, in different neighborhoods: families in the south-beach all-inclusives, Elenite, Ravda and Wave Resort with the water parks, and young people in the central hotels by Flower Street and Cacao Beach. Couples pick adults-only Secrets or Sveti Vlas.

How do I get around Burgas and Sunny Beach?

On foot and by tourist train along the strip, bus 1 from Sveti Vlas to Nesebar for €1-2, and taxis only via TaxiMe or the hotel. Buses to Burgas run often (30 minutes), and for Sozopol take a driver for the day. No car needed.

What should I pack for Burgas?

Strong sunscreen, water shoes for Nesebar's pebbly beaches, a light sweater for September evenings, a passport for the casino, and a credit card since Bulgaria has used the euro since 2026 and cash is needed only for stalls and sunbeds.
