Lodging such as Haus Matschwitz is ideal for waking up on the mountain, but choices are limited, evenings are extremely quiet, and reaching valley restaurants may require a cable-car ride or car.
Tschagguns
The closest village to Golm’s Latschau side, Tschagguns has a compact center around Pfarrkirche Tschagguns and quick access to the cable car, Latschau reservoirs and hiking trails. Montafoner Hof is a well-known comfortable hotel, while Schruns is only a few minutes away. Value is better than on-mountain lodging, but nightlife is minimal and a car makes the stay considerably easier.
Schruns
Schruns is the most useful and lively hub in the Montafon valley, centered on Kirchplatz and Silvrettastraße, with a railway station, sports shops, bars and restaurants. Löwen Hotel Montafon and Posthotel Taube provide central lodging, and Golm is roughly a ten-minute drive away. It is the best base for relatively young visitors, though après-ski remains low-key and rooms near the square or station can be noisier.
Vandans
Vandans sits beside the lower Golmerbahn station on Seilbahnstraße, making it especially practical for families who do not want a daily drive with ski equipment. Chalet Resort Montafon offers convenient apartments, and summer visitors gain a relaxed family option at Schwimmbad Vandans. Prices are often lower than in Schruns, but the village center is small, dining is limited and evenings are very quiet.
Bartholomäberg
Bartholomäberg spreads across the sunny slope above Schruns, with broad views toward the Rätikon and Silvretta ranges, especially around the church, Bartholomäberg road and Panoramastraße. Hotel Fernblick Montafon is a recognized choice for spa facilities and scenery, while the Knappagruaba trail explores the area’s mining history. It is peaceful and romantic, but mountain roads are winding, Golm is not directly accessible and spa hotels command higher prices.
Bludenz
Bludenz is a larger, more practical town at the entrance to the valley, with a pedestrian center around Werdenbergerstraße, Zimbapark shopping center and hotels such as ALPSTADT Lifestyle Hotel. Golm is approximately 15 to 25 minutes away by car, but visitors gain more supermarkets, restaurants and excellent railway connections. The trade-off is losing the ski-village atmosphere and having to commute to the mountain each day.

In summer, follow Golmi’s Forschungspfad, a family trail of about 3.5 kilometers descending from Grüneck to Matschwitz, then ride the Alpine-Coaster-Golm. Return to Latschau in late afternoon and walk around the reservoir in softer light.

Silvretta Montafon
Drive early to St. Gallenkirch and ascend on the Valisera Bahn, or take the Hochjoch Bahn from Schruns, to explore the much larger Silvretta Montafon area. In winter, this makes a long ski day better suited to confident skiers; in summer, enjoy viewpoints around Nova Stoba and select a hike according to conditions. Bring kosher sandwiches and a picnic because there is no kosher restaurant on the mountain. Return to Schruns for a short evening walk and, if booked, a hotel spa session.

Lünersee and Brand
In summer, leave before 08:00 for Brandnertal and continue to the Lünerseebahn, as parking and cable-car spaces fill on clear days. Ride up to Lünersee, complete the roughly two-hour circuit and stop for a picnic facing Schesaplana. On the return, stroll through Brand or ride the Dorfbahn for another viewpoint; in winter, when lake access is closed, replace this with a ski day in Brandnertal. Spend the evening quietly at your apartment or spa, as the drive back takes around 35 to 50 minutes.

Silvretta High Alpine Road and Galtür
From late spring into autumn, devote a day to the Silvretta-Hochalpenstraße, the high alpine road climbing through Partenen toward the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe reservoir. Stop at Vermuntstausee, continue to the main dam and take a short lakeside walk before afternoon cloud builds. If the entire road is open, continue to Galtür and return through Paznaun; verify opening status, weather and tolls that morning. The road closes in winter, when a sledding, snowshoe or spa day around Partenen and Gaschurn is the better alternative.

Bartholomäberg and Bludenz
Begin in Bartholomäberg near St. Bartholomäus church and walk a scenic section of the Knappagruaba mining trail facing the Rätikon peaks. Then descend to Bludenz, pass through Oberes Tor and Werdenbergerstraße, and allow an hour for Zimbapark, where Israeli visitors commonly shop for clothing, sports goods and groceries before flying home. From the airport
