# 🇸🇨 Seychelles

> Seychelles is an Indian Ocean escape that hardly looks real, with powdery beaches, clear water and immense granite boulders framing the shore. Israeli travelers come mainly for honeymoons, luxurious couples’ breaks and relaxed family holidays, often combining Mahé, Praslin and La Digue in one trip. Essential experiences include Anse Lazio, the coco de mer palms of Vallée de Mai and a bicycle ride to Anse Source d’Argent. This is not a shopping or big-nightlife destination, but a place for indulgent resorts, snorkeling, giant tortoises and unforgettable sunsets.

## Destinations within the country

- [Praslin](https://vayulor.com/en/destinations/seychelles/praslin): Praslin is the Seychellois island for couples and families seeking dream beaches, tropical nature and polished resorts without Mahé’s busier rhythm.

## Where to stay

- **Beau Vallon, Mahé** — Best for: Families, younger travelers, value and convenience. This is the easiest base for Israeli travelers: a broad, swimmable beach, restaurants, stalls and water sports along Beau Vallon Beach Road, plus familiar resorts such as STORY Seychelles and Savoy. Wednesday's Bazar Labrin brings local food and music, but this is also the islands' busiest tourist hub, with occasional weekend noise.
- **Victoria and Eden Island, Mahé** — Best for: Kosher-observant travelers, short stays, families and marina lovers. Victoria is convenient for Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market, the Clock Tower and access to Chabad in the Bel Air area, while Eden Island offers a polished marina, Eden Plaza and apartments with kitchens. It is practical for ferries and errands, but less of a classic beach holiday than Beau Vallon, and Eden Island is relatively expensive.
- **Baie Lazare and Anse Royale, South Mahé** — Best for: Couples, families with a car and quiet-seekers. The south feels greener and more local, with snorkel-friendly Anse Royale, tiny Anse Soleil and hotels such as Kempinski Seychelles Resort at Baie Lazare. There are minimarkets and simple restaurants along East Coast Road, but evenings become quiet early, and Victoria or Beau Vallon is roughly 35 to 50 minutes away.
- **Grand Anse and Côte d’Or, Praslin** — Best for: Families, couples and a relaxed island stay. Côte d’Or by Anse Volbert is the more convenient choice, with a long beach, restaurants, dive centers and departures for St Pierre and Curieuse; Grand Anse is usually cheaper and handier for the airport. Le Duc de Praslin is a well-known local anchor, but there is little real nightlife, and seasonal seaweed affects one side of the island more than the other.
- **La Passe, La Digue** — Best for: Couples, laid-back younger travelers and car-free visitors. Around La Passe jetty are bicycle rentals, grocery shops, cafés and guesthouses such as Le Repaire, with easy rides to Anse Source d’Argent and Grand Anse. The mood is barefoot and romantic with lovely sunsets, but almost everything winds down after 21:00, day-tripper crowds peak around midday and accommodation is pricey for its simplicity.
- **Platte Island or Desroches** — Best for: Luxury, honeymoons and total seclusion. Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island and Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island are private-island resorts with villas, bicycles, diving and beaches that feel nearly private. It is exceptional for couples happy to stay inside the resort, but requires a domestic flight, meals and activities are extremely expensive, and there is no outside dining, shopping or nightlife.

## Getting around

- **Airport to city:** From Mahé airport, a taxi to Eden Island or Victoria takes 10 to 20 minutes and costs about ₪70-130; Beau Vallon takes 25 to 35 minutes and roughly ₪120-190. For southern Mahé, including Anse Royale and Baie Lazare, allow 20 to 40 minutes and around ₪100-200; prebooked transfers generally cost a similar amount and may be included by resorts. SPTC buses are extremely cheap at around ₪1-3 per ride, but large luggage is not accepted, making them impractical on arrival. There is no train and no dependable Uber-style service; reach Praslin by a roughly 15-minute domestic flight or Cat Cocos ferry from Victoria, then continue to La Digue by ferry via Praslin.
- **Do you need a car?** On Mahé, a rental car is strongly recommended for families, couples exploring the southern beaches and anyone not staying solely in Beau Vallon; driving is on the left, and roads are narrow with few shoulders. Guests based in Beau Vallon with only one touring day can use taxis or hire a driver, though costs mount quickly. On Praslin, a car for two days is the easiest way to reach Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio; on La Digue, use a bicycle or e-bike rather than a car.
- **Transport tips:** Agree on the taxi fare in advance or request the meter, and keep the number of a reliable hotel-recommended driver because no ride-hailing app is dependable. Book Cat Cocos and Cat Rose ahead, especially in July-August and during Israeli holidays; the Mahé-Praslin crossing can be rough, so motion-sensitive travelers should consider flying. Parking at most beaches is free but limited, and it is best to avoid the Sans Souci and southern Mahé roads after dark or in heavy rain.

## What it costs (for Israeli travelers)

- **Tel Aviv return flight:** ₪2,400-4,500
- **4-5 night package:** ₪4,800-8,500 per person
- **Mid-range hotel nightly:** ₪650-1,100
- **5-star hotel nightly:** ₪1,800-4,500
- **Restaurant meal:** ₪90-220
- **Local beer:** ₪18-35
- **Coffee:** ₪12-24
- **Short taxi ride:** ₪55-110
- **Rental car daily:** ₪180-320
- **Mahé-Praslin ferry:** ₪220-270 one way
- **Curieuse-St Pierre tour:** ₪350-600
- **Daily budget per person:** ₪450-900 (excl. hotel)
- **Family, 5 nights:** ₪22,000-38,000

## Kosher food, Chabad & Jewish community

- **Chabad house:** Chabad Seychelles operates in the Bel Air area of Mahé, above Victoria and a short drive from Eden Island; confirm the exact address and schedule in advance because this is not a large urban center. Shabbat and holiday meals can generally be reserved, with assistance regarding minyanim and kosher food, but visitors should not assume a daily minyan. Praslin and La Digue have no permanent Chabad house, so Shabbat-observant visitors must plan island transfers and accommodation carefully. — [Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Chabad%20Seychelles%20Seychelles)
- **Kosher food:** The main kosher option is advance meal ordering through Chabad or locally coordinated kosher catering; Seychelles does not have a dependable selection of walk-in kosher restaurants. STC Hypermarket in Victoria, SPAR at Eden Plaza and larger supermarkets sometimes stock imported certified products, but supplies fluctuate and should not be relied upon for kosher meat, chalav Yisrael dairy or bread. In practice, observant Israeli travelers book an apartment with a kitchen, bring sealed staples from Israel, buy fruit, vegetables, eggs and basics locally, and arrange challah and Shabbat meals in advance.

## Suggested itinerary

1. **Day 1: Arrival and Beau Vallon** — After landing on Mahé, collect a car or transfer to Beau Vallon and settle in without cramming in attractions. Head to the beach in the late afternoon, when the light is softer and the water is often calmer, and swim opposite Savoy or STORY Seychelles. On Wednesday, browse Bazar Labrin for fruit, juices and local food, checking dietary requirements as needed; otherwise stock up at a grocery shop on Beau Vallon Beach Road. Finish with sunset from the northern end of the bay.
2. **Day 2: Victoria and Mahé's highlands** — Reach Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market before 09:00, while stalls are full and temperatures manageable, then walk to the Clock Tower and Arul Mihu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple. Drive up Sans Souci Road and stop at Mission Lodge for a lush view over the west coast. In the afternoon, hike the Copolia Trail only in dry weather and with proper shoes, or choose the gentler Victoria Botanical Gardens and its giant tortoises. Return to Beau Vallon before dark because the mountain road is narrow and winding.
3. **Day 3: South Mahé beaches** — Leave by 08:00 for Anse Intendance, one of Mahé's most dramatic beaches, but enter the water only when calm because there is no protective reef. Continue to Anse Takamaka, have a packed lunch or use a local café after checking dietary needs, then swim and snorkel at Anse Royale if conditions permit. Later, head to Anse Soleil, ideally with arrangements made in advance because access is steep and parking limited. Catch sunset at Baie Lazare before driving north.
4. **Day 4: Praslin, Vallée de Mai and Anse Lazio** — Take an early flight or Cat Cocos ferry to Praslin, leave luggage at the hotel and collect a car. Begin at Vallée de Mai, the UNESCO-listed forest of the coco de mer palm, ideally before tour groups arrive. Buy lunch supplies in Baie Sainte Anne or Côte d’Or and continue to Anse Lazio, swimming near the rocky ends only in calm conditions. Stay overnight on Praslin, preferably around Côte d’Or for an easy evening on foot.
5. **Day 5: Curieuse, St Pierre and La Digue** — Depart Anse Volbert in the morning on a prebooked boat trip to Curieuse, meet the giant tortoises near Baie Laraie and walk the mangrove trail to Anse St José. Continue for snorkeling around tiny St Pierre, using a good mask and following crew instructions about currents. Return to Praslin, take an afternoon Cat Rose ferry to La Digue and collect bicycles near La Passe jetty. Ride to Anse Severe for sunset, then return to La Passe before the roads become dark.
6. **Day 6: Anse Source d’Argent and return** — Cycle to L’Union Estate at opening time, pay the entrance fee and reach Anse Source d’Argent before 09:00 to enjoy its granite formations before day-tripper crowds. Continue by bicycle to Grand Anse and, if the path is dry and you have walking shoes, cross to Petite Anse, but avoid swimming when surf is strong. Eat a packed lunch or buy fruit and drinks in La Passe, then return the bicycles on time. Sail back to Mahé via Praslin with at least a four-hour buffer before an international departure, or better still, spend the final night on Mahé if the flight home leaves in the morning.

## VAYULOR tips

- 💳 Use cards at hotels and restaurants, but keep SCR 1,000–1,500 in cash for taxis, stalls, and small businesses, withdrawing from an MCB or Nouvobanq ATM rather than exchanging a large amount at the airport.
- 🚗 Mahé and Praslin drive on the left and many roads are narrow with no shoulder, so rent a small automatic car, avoid making your first drive after dark, and refuel before exploring southern Mahé.
- ⛴️ Book Cat Cocos ferries between Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue in advance, and in rough seas sit toward the rear or take the short Air Seychelles flight to Praslin if you are prone to seasickness.
- 🏨 Beau Vallon is the practical choice for Israelis seeking restaurants, sunsets, and a slightly livelier evening scene, while southern Mahé suits couples who prefer a quiet resort and their own car.
- 📅 Arrange Anse Georgette access through Constance Lemuria and reserve a Curieuse and St Pierre boat tour at least several days ahead, especially in July, August, and during Israeli holidays.
- 🌊 In July and August, southeast trade winds can bring waves and seaweed to some beaches, so do not choose a hotel by photos alone and check whether northern shores such as Beau Vallon and Anse Lazio are calmer for your dates.
- ✡️ Kosher travelers have few spontaneous options, so arrange meals and Shabbat in advance with Chabad Seychelles, bring essential products from Israel, and choose a villa with a kitchen for a longer stay.
- 🎰 For a casino evening, bring your passport and wear smart casual clothing at Club Liberté in Baie Lazare, remembering that Seychelles nightlife is far quieter than Greece or Cyprus and most bars close relatively early.
- 🛟 Anse Intendance, Grand Anse, and isolated La Digue beaches can have strong currents and often lack lifeguards, so never enter merely because the water looks photogenic and heed signs and local advice.
- 📱 Install an eSIM before flying or buy an Airtel Seychelles or Cable & Wireless SIM at Mahé airport, as resort and ferry Wi-Fi is not always reliable and beach-to-beach navigation benefits from a live connection.

## Frequently asked questions

**Do Israelis need a visa for Seychelles?**

Israeli citizens do not need a visa in advance for Seychelles, but they must obtain an online Travel Authorization and present a valid passport, onward ticket and accommodation confirmation. Complete the application several days before departure rather than waiting until check-in.

**Are there direct flights from Israel to Seychelles, and how long is the flight?**

Direct flights from Tel Aviv to Seychelles generally operate seasonally rather than year-round, with a flight time of about 6 hours and 20 minutes to Mahé. When no nonstop service is available, the most practical connections are usually via Addis Ababa or Dubai, so check the schedule for your exact dates.

**When is the best time to visit Seychelles, and when is peak season?**

April-May and October-November are the most balanced months in Seychelles, with relatively calm seas, tropical warmth and excellent snorkeling conditions. July-August and the December holiday period are busier and more expensive, with stronger trade winds in summer and greater humidity and rainfall around December-January.

**How many days do you need in Seychelles, and should you combine it with another destination?**

For a first trip to Seychelles, allow 7-10 nights and combine Mahé, Praslin and La Digue without rushing between ferries. Travelers making the most of the long journey can add 2-4 nights in Dubai or Addis Ababa, but with less than a week it is better to stay on only two islands.

**How do you travel between and around the islands of Seychelles?**

Travel between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue is by Cat Cocos and Cat Rose ferries, or a short Air Seychelles domestic flight between Mahé and Praslin. Renting a car is worthwhile on Mahé and Praslin, where driving is on the left and automatic cars should be reserved early, while bicycles are the main way to explore La Digue.

**How much does a couple's vacation in Seychelles cost?**

A one-week Seychelles trip for two generally costs about ₪18,000-₪35,000 including flights from Tel Aviv, a good hotel, ferries or a rental car and meals, while luxury resorts can push the total above ₪40,000. Guesthouses on Praslin or La Digue, self-catering facilities and early ferry bookings can reduce the cost.

**Are Seychelles safe for Israeli travelers?**

Seychelles are generally safe and relaxed, but phones and bags should not be left unattended on beaches or visible inside cars, and swimming warnings must be respected. The greater practical risk is Mahé's narrow, dark roads, so avoid driving quickly after sunset.

**What are the must-do experiences in Seychelles, and is it better for couples or families?**

The essential Seychelles experiences are Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue, Vallée de Mai on Praslin, Anse Lazio and a boat trip to see the giant tortoises on Curieuse Island. Couples especially enjoy La Digue and secluded resorts, while families find Beau Vallon and Mahé hotels convenient for pools, accessible beaches and dining choices.

**Are there nightlife, clubs and casinos in Seychelles?**

Seychelles are not an all-night party destination, with most evenings centered on Beau Vallon bars, hotel entertainment and sunset drinks. Mahé does have casinos, including Gran Kaz in Bel Ombre and Casino Club Liberté near Baie Lazare, but they are a side activity rather than a reason to visit.

**Are kosher food and Chabad available in Seychelles, and what should you pack?**

Chabad Seychelles operates on Mahé, and travelers can inquire in advance about Shabbat meals and kosher food, but options beyond Mahé are limited, so kosher-observant visitors should bring sealed products and book self-catering accommodation. Pack water shoes, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, a British-style plug adapter and suitable Shabbat clothing rather than relying on last-minute shopping on the smaller islands.
