# 🇵🇱 Warsaw — Poland

> Warsaw is an easy, good-value city break for Israelis, combining direct flights, excellent shopping, varied dining and lively nightlife. Start at the colorful Old Town Market Square and Royal Castle, take in the view from the Palace of Culture and Science, then explore the powerful Jewish story at the POLIN Museum and Próżna Street. Shopping favorites include Nowy Świat, Złote Tarasy and Westfield Arkadia, while summer evenings belong to Śródmieście bars and the Vistula riverfront. Chabad, kosher dining and heritage sites such as the Jewish Cemetery also make the city particularly accessible to observant travelers.

## Where to stay

- **Śródmieście and Centrum** — Best for: First-time visitors, couples, shopping and nightlife. This is the most convenient base for Israelis who want to step outside into Nowy Świat, Aleje Jerozolimskie, Złote Tarasy mall and the Palace of Culture and Science. Hotels such as Novotel Warszawa Centrum and InterContinental Warsaw put the metro, restaurants and bars close at hand, but the Rondo Dmowskiego area is busy and noisy, and better rooms cost more on weekends.
- **Old Town and the Royal Route** — Best for: Couples, romantic atmosphere and short stays. Around the Market Square, Krakowskie Przedmieście and Castle Square, Warsaw is at its most photogenic, with easy walks to the Royal Castle and Multimedia Fountain Park. Hotel Bristol is the classic luxury address on the Royal Route, but the Old Town has fewer large hotels, cobbles are awkward with luggage and nightlife is limited compared with Centrum.
- **Wola** — Best for: Families, business travelers, new hotels and good value. The high-rise district around Rondo Daszyńskiego combines Warsaw Spire, the Warsaw Rising Museum, restaurants and newer hotels such as Crowne Plaza Warsaw - The HUB. The metro reaches Centrum within minutes and rooms are often larger, but the district feels corporate after work and some sections still have construction sites and broad roads.
- **Powiśle** — Best for: Young travelers, couples, bars and local atmosphere. Between the Vistula Boulevards, Copernicus Science Centre and Dobra Street lies young, relaxed Warsaw, with Elektrownia Powiśle, cafés and seasonal riverside bars. Barceló Warsaw Powiśle suits travelers seeking design and location, but summer nights along the river can be noisy and the uphill walk toward the Royal Route is noticeable.
- **Mokotów** — Best for: Families, longer stays and relative quiet. Green Mokotów works well for apartments and families wanting more space, particularly near Pole Mokotowskie, Puławska Street and Królikarnia Park. Vienna House by Wyndham Mokotow Warsaw and its surroundings offer better prices, but southern parts of the district are far from the Old Town and rush-hour journeys into the center can drag.
- **Praga-Północ** — Best for: Budget travelers, alternative culture and younger visitors. East of the Vistula, old courtyards, street art, the Koneser complex and Moxy Warsaw Praga sit near lively Ząbkowska Street. Prices are generally lower and the character less polished, but street selection matters, the surroundings feel rougher at night and most classic sights are across the river.

## Getting around

- **Airport to city:** From Warsaw Chopin Airport, S2 and S30 trains reach central stations such as Warszawa Centralna and Warszawa Śródmieście in roughly 20-30 minutes, with a city transport ticket costing about ₪4-7; buses 175 and 188 are also useful for Centrum and Mokotów. An official taxi or Uber, Bolt and FREENOW to Centrum usually costs ₪40-75 and takes 20-35 minutes, or up to 45 minutes in traffic; a prebooked private shuttle costs roughly ₪90-160 per vehicle. From Modlin Airport, used by some low-cost flights, a direct bus or shuttle-and-train combination costs about ₪20-40 and takes 45-70 minutes, while a taxi or private transfer to the center costs roughly ₪130-220 and takes 40-60 minutes.
- **Do you need a car?** A car is unnecessary for a city visit: metro, trams and buses cover Centrum, Wola, Praga and Mokotów well, while central parking is costly and limited. Couples and young groups can rely on public transport and Bolt; even families are better off ordering a larger app-based car when needed. Renting becomes worthwhile only when continuing to places such as Żelazowa Wola, Lublin or the Masurian Lakes.
- **Transport tips:** Install Jakdojade for route planning and tickets, and Bolt or Uber for late-night rides; make sure a digital ticket has been activated before inspection. A 24- or 72-hour pass pays off when making several daily trips, and most attractions are within Zone 1. At the airport, book through an app or use only the official taxi rank, and in winter allow extra transfer time for snow and delays.

## Kosher food, Chabad & Jewish community

- **Chabad house:** Chabad Warsaw and its synagogue operate at 19 Słomińskiego Street, near Dworzec Gdański station and north of the Old Town. This is the practical hub for Israeli visitors seeking prayers, Shabbat and holiday meals and access to kosher food; contact and meal reservations are essential, especially during holidays and group season. Nożyk Synagogue at 6 Twarda Street, near Centrum, belongs to the Jewish community and holds services, though entry procedures and opening hours vary. — [Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Chabad%20Warsaw%20Warsaw)
- **Kosher food:** Galil at 37 Zielna Street is known as a central kosher meat option, while Bekef near the Chabad area provides Israeli-style kosher food, but current hours and certification should be checked in advance. Community outlets and Chabad-linked points sell packaged products and may accept Shabbat meal orders; large Carrefour and Auchan supermarkets carry a limited selection bearing kosher symbols, not a complete kosher section. Many observant Israeli travelers preorder through Chabad, choose a hotel with a mini-fridge and supplement with sealed products brought from home or bought locally.

## Suggested itinerary

1. **Day 1: Old Town and the Royal Route** — Start before 09:00 at Castle Square to see Sigismund's Column and the colorful façades before tour groups arrive, then visit the Royal Castle and continue to the Market Square and Barbican. At midday walk along Krakowskie Przedmieście past the Presidential Palace and Warsaw University, and have vegetarian pierogi or fish at a suitable restaurant, with kosher travelers checking certification. Continue through Nowy Świat and visit the Warsaw University Library rooftop garden when in season. In the evening, stroll along the Vistula Boulevards or catch the Multimedia Fountain show on summer weekends.
2. **Day 2: Jewish Warsaw and POLIN Museum** — Devote the morning to the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews and arrive at opening time, as its comprehensive exhibition requires at least three hours. Continue to the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, 18 Miła Street, Umschlagplatz and the ghetto wall remains at 62 Złota Street. In the afternoon visit Nożyk Synagogue and the Próżna Street area, subject to hours and security, and eat kosher food preordered from Galil or through Chabad. In the evening, head to a rooftop bar around Rondo Daszyńskiego or return for a quieter walk through Grzybowski Square.
3. **Day 3: Łazienki Park, palace and shopping** — Reach Łazienki Park in the morning and walk around the Palace on the Isle, amphitheater and Chopin Monument; on summer Sundays, time the visit for a free Chopin concert. Continue north along Ujazdowskie and through the embassy district, or visit the National Museum if the weather turns cold. Spend the afternoon shopping at Złote Tarasy for Zara, Reserved and H&M, or at Westfield Arkadia for a broader selection including Massimo Dutti and Guess. Finish at the Palace of Culture and Science observation terrace near sunset, followed by bars around Poznańska and Nowogrodzka streets.
4. **Day 4: Warsaw Rising, Wola and Powiśle** — Book an early slot at the Warsaw Rising Museum in Wola, one of the city's most powerful museums, and allow two to three hours. Afterwards, see the high-rises around Rondo Daszyńskiego and have lunch at Fabryka Norblina, an industrial complex transformed into restaurants and shops; kosher travelers should use packed food or preorder a meal. In the afternoon, visit the Copernicus Science Centre, an excellent family choice, or walk through the university library's rooftop garden. In the evening continue to Elektrownia Powiśle and the seasonal Vistula riverbank bars, which become particularly busy Thursday through Saturday.
5. **Day 5: Praga, Koneser and the Vistula** — Begin at St. Florian's Cathedral and the courtyards around Ząbkowska Street, preferably on a guided walk explaining the surviving prewar buildings and street art. Continue to Centrum Praskie Koneser and the Polish Vodka Museum; its tour covers history and production, and tastings can be skipped. Families may prefer Warsaw Zoo or the urban Poniatówka beach in summer. Near sunset, cross back over the newer pedestrian and bicycle bridge across the Vistula, then finish with dinner in Centrum or a preordered kosher meal.
6. **Day 6: Wilanów Palace or Żelazowa Wola** — For a relaxed day without leaving the city, travel in the morning to Wilanów Palace, tour the royal rooms and gardens and arrive ahead of school groups; in winter it hosts the Royal Garden of Light. Music lovers can instead make the roughly 50-kilometer trip to Żelazowa Wola, Chopin's birthplace, by rental car or organized tour. Back in Warsaw, finish shopping at Westfield Arkadia or along Nowy Świat and stop for coffee before the flight. For an evening departure, allow at least 45 minutes to reach Chopin Airport and around three hours for the full journey and procedures at Modlin.

## VAYULOR tips

- 💳 Cards are accepted almost everywhere in Warsaw, but at terminals and Euronet ATMs always choose Polish złoty and reject conversion to shekels, which usually carries a poor exchange rate.
- ✈️ Check whether your Tel Aviv flight lands at Warsaw Chopin, marked WAW, or Modlin, marked WMI: Chopin is about 25 minutes from central Warsaw, while Modlin can take 45 to 70 minutes and cost roughly ₪45 to ₪90 per person by shuttle or combined bus and train.
- 🚋 From Chopin Airport, S2 or S30 trains and bus 175 reach central Warsaw using a 75-minute public transport ticket costing about ₪4.50, but it must be validated immediately in the yellow machine.
- 🏨 For a first visit, stay in Śródmieście near Nowy Świat or Rondo ONZ; couples interested in bars and design should consider Powiśle, while families benefit from the quieter streets around Łazienki Park.
- 🎟️ Reserve timed admission to the POLIN Museum and the Palace of Culture observation terrace for weekends, and do not schedule POLIN for Tuesday, when it is generally closed.
- ✡️ For kosher meals or Shabbat dinner, contact Chabad of Poland in Warsaw several days ahead and confirm the current address, hours and supervision when booking, as the city's options can change.
- 🎰 Casino Warsaw at the Warsaw Presidential Hotel requires a passport and admits guests aged 18 and over; smart-casual clothing is appropriate, and arriving before midnight on weekends helps avoid the queue.
- 🍸 For bars on Mazowiecka Street and clubs around Nowy Świat, dress neatly and carry original identification; large, noisy groups are more likely to be refused, and arguing with door staff never helps.
- 🧥 In winter, bring waterproof shoes with good grip, gloves and a hat even when the forecast is only around freezing; in summer, carry a light layer and folding umbrella for sudden storms over the Vistula.
- 📱 A European eSIM works well in Warsaw, while local SIM cards from Orange, Play or T-Mobile require passport registration; also download Jakdojade for public transport and Bolt for rides.

## Frequently asked questions

**Do Israelis need a visa for Warsaw?**

**Are there direct flights from Tel Aviv to Warsaw, and how long is the flight?**

Direct flights from Tel Aviv to Warsaw are operated by airlines including EL AL and LOT, with a typical flight time of about 3 hours 50 minutes to 4 hours 15 minutes. Most land at Chopin Airport, around 25–35 minutes from central Warsaw by train or taxi.

**When is the best time to visit Warsaw, and what should I pack?**

May–June and September offer Warsaw’s most pleasant weather, while July–August is the main tourism peak and December is popular for Christmas markets and Old Town illuminations. Pack a light layer and umbrella even in summer; winter requires a genuinely warm coat, waterproof shoes, gloves and a hat.

Three nights are enough for a strong introduction to Warsaw, while four allow time for Wilanów Palace, the Praga district or a relaxed shopping day. For a longer Polish trip, combine Warsaw with Kraków by a roughly 2.5-hour fast train or Gdańsk in about three hours.

**What is the easiest way to get around Warsaw?**

Warsaw’s metro, trams and buses are efficient and inexpensive, and a 24- or 72-hour ticket is useful for moving between the Old Town, Śródmieście, Praga and Mokotów. At night or with luggage, Bolt and Uber are usually more convenient and economical than hailing a taxi.

**How much does a holiday in Warsaw cost?**

A 3–4-night Warsaw break typically costs about ₪2,400–₪4,500 per person sharing a double room, including direct flights, a central hotel, meals, transport and attractions; luxury accommodation and shopping can push it beyond ₪5,500. A good meal generally costs ₪50–₪110 per person, while coffee and a pastry are around ₪18–₪30.

**Is Warsaw safe for Israeli travelers?**

Warsaw is considered relatively safe, particularly in central areas such as Śródmieście, Nowy Świat and the Old Town, though pickpocketing can occur on public transport and near major sights. Israelis should monitor official travel advisories, avoid displaying identifying symbols around demonstrations and use app-based or metered taxis.

**What are the must-see attractions in Warsaw?**

A first visit to Warsaw should include the Old Town Market Square and Royal Castle, Łazienki Park, the Warsaw Uprising Museum and POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Also visit the observation terrace at the Palace of Culture and Science and walk along Krakowskie Przedmieście toward Nowy Świat.

**What is Warsaw nightlife like, and are there casinos?**

Warsaw has a strong nightlife scene, with bars around Nowy Świat and Mazowiecka, club nights at Smolna and rooftop parties at Level 27, although it is less wild than Budapest or Prague. The city does have legal casinos, notably Casino Warsaw at the Hilton on Grzybowska Street, with table games and slots; bring a passport and follow the dress code.

**Are there kosher food and Chabad in Warsaw, and is the city suitable for families and couples?**

Warsaw has an active Chabad center offering prayers, pre-arranged Shabbat meals and kosher-food assistance, while the Nożyk Synagogue is a central address for Jewish life; confirm opening times and certification before arriving. Families enjoy the Copernicus Science Centre and Warsaw Zoo, while couples often prefer Łazienki Park, a Chopin concert and the bars around Nowy Świat.
